Fender Rumble Club

Awesome, just ordered this! This will be great to read and play along with while in lock down. Just discovering Dunn's music and playing now (grew up on 80s alternative) and loving the groove and tone. For me, it the sound of a bass. Downloaded a Dunn playlist on Apple Music and that's some fantastic music.

I was a Duck fan before I knew of Duck. Booker T & the MGs blew me away.

Go rent, buy, or download the movie Blues Brothers. It is a classic. Plus you get to watch Duck Dunn and many other great musicians perform.

A side note on the movie. For those of you that might not know this, but that is Joe Walsh making a cameo at the end of the movie. He is the prisoner who first jumps up on the table when Jailhouse Rock starts.

I have the 15 and 25 Rumble,I modded the Rumble 25 ,packed the inside, replaced the stock speaker with a 6 ohm speaker, the amp is part of my light weight stereo rig.THE GK power the lows and the rumble with that custom 8inch speakerView attachment 3751387 BITEs with only 25 watts.

Wow, o.t.! That's amazing. @otp57, you are now member #1202 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Checkout the Rumble Club Wiki page, linked in my signature, for lotsa Rumble info.

So, a new 6 ohm speaker, eh? Think you get maybe 29 to 33 watts outta the amp with that? :roflmao: Looks like you've also switched knobs on your Rumble, too. But, ... uh, I dunno of a V3 Rumble with 6 knobs?!? The 15 & 25 only have 4 and the 40 thru 500 have 8. So, what's your deal, there? I mean, nosy ..., uh, that is, ... enquiring minds wanna know. But, whatever else happens, let's all remember to. . . .

Rumble On!

Fender things for your viewing pleasure. I dressed up my '75 Precision with the chrome which had been in a plastic bag for a few decades. Even found an old curly cord!

An 8 ohm speaker reads as 6 ohms DC, which is what an ohmmeter measures. DC resistance in a speaker is usually a bit over 75% of the AC impedance, which is what tge amp sees.

edit: an 8 ohm speaker typically reads 6.4 ohms, a 4 reads 3.2, etc. but there’s variance.

Thanks, Miley, I'd read that before. But I missed the part where he mentioned measuring the impedance and just assumed it was manufactured as a 6 ohm speaker. Is that not a thing? I dunno.

I may have also mis-guesstimated the output power of an actual 6 ohm speaker with an amp rated 25W at 8 ohms, too. What do you think?

He didn’t say. While there may be 6 ohm speakers, I haven’t seen one. I have seen a roughly 6 ohm cab (3 x 16 ohm speakers in parallel). It’s 5.3 ohms, but I guess odd numbers for speakers spook people.

It varies with the output stage and power supply. Certainly feasible.

You could rewire the 500 so that it is a cab-only when driven by an external amp. It would then become a backup as well.

Rather then buying a 2x10 could buy another 500C (only $200 more). You get 700w as opposed to 500w. Better value for money.

With the highlight of the movie IMO watching John Lee Hooker singing Boom Boom outside of the store. Reminds me of Miles Davis: simple but immensely powerful.
