Fender Rumble Club

Le beau, mon cher!

A. I have zero experience with either the R800HD or the BM800.
2. I often joyfully experience both the R500c and the BM500 and have compared them here.

The differences in tone, however, lie in the Bassman's tube pre-amp, deep switch and vintage cut-only channel, all of which are absent from the Rumble. IIRC, the tube even remains in the XLR signal when switched to Pre!

I hope this helps you, cher.
.

The tube pre bit makes perfect sense. I'm a tube guy as much as I can get away with. At some point I'll build or buy a tube pre for my rig. Yesterday I played at church for the first time since March. Instead of the usual SansAmp, they had a REDDI (tube-based DI) for me to plug into. That was the best sound I have ever heard come out of my basses.

Don't Canadian online orders have a very gracious return policy, mon ami? I ordered my R500c 6-1/2 years ago fully expecting to return it for the BM500. (I already had the BM115) I was quite sceptical of the low weight & low price versus the high power. But, I got hooked! I later went ahead with the BM500, fearing the comparison may tarnish the R500c. But, viola! [sic] ;) They live in my musical toolbox in perfect harmony!
.

I know one of thoses stores here have a great return policy but I just dont like to mess around with returning stuff. And no store have any bassman gear in stock and Id have to wait months before I get it in the first time :( I miss that time when stores had everything

FYI, many stores(not only music)use 'dropship' central warehouses. This cuts down on the amount of space needed to store things, but also means less inventory on hand. It may be less costly to accept returns than allot storage space for slower moving items-such as bass cabs.

What gets me is unused floor and wall space. That tells me they're either moving inventory faster than they can stock it, or they're having actual problems.

G-Dog, I was thinking about an Ampeg PF 50t Head. Can I plug that into the speaker ext jack on my 200c so I could use the Ampeg with the internal 15”?
I wouldn’t, EatS. The speaker ext jack is putting out output power, not line or instrument level. It’ll dangerously overload the Ampeg’s preamp.

What you MIGHT try would be, if the Ampeg has effects send and receive capability, is to:
  • Take the line out (or the effects send) from the Rumble 200 and connect it to the Ampeg’s effects return. This will use the Rumble’s preamp to control both the Rumble’s and the Ampeg’s power amps. OR:
  • Use the Ampeg’s line out or effects send to connect to the Rumble 200’s effects return. The preamp from the Ampeg would then control the Rumble’s power amp. OR:
  • Use a pedal like an A/B/Y or a a line splitter to send separate instrument-level signals to both amplifiers, setting them independently of one another.
Geez, EatS. Sometimes we gotta protect each other from ourselves! :)

Even if the Rumble is not turned on?

No. Do not do this. That is an output from the power amp. You would be pushing power into the wrong side of the amp. I can’t say you would definitely fry the amp (maybe both), but I’d be surprised if you didn’t.

EatSy, listen to Ronnie & Miley!!! They are right. You are wrong. Rumble on or off, don't do it!!! Besides being connected to the speaker, that ext jack is also connected to the amp. The electricity don't know, or care, that you only want it to go to the speaker. It'll go both places! And what it does to either or both amps, you don't want to find out!! :woot:

EatS, the Rumble Modifications section, then see the link "Separating Combo's Amp and Speaker(s) - The eric_B Mod" in the Rumble Modifications section of the Rumble Club Wiki page, and read that whole thread!!! That's how to do what you want to do without harm to either amp.

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. Thanks to Everyone. It was supposed to say with the Rumble turned (off) lol. But no, I am not doing it.

What up! Any tips on playing my Rumble 500c quietly? My gf just moved in and she is not a fan of the vibrating walls that come from the (admittedly) absurd amount of dirt pedals I have. Turning the volume down on my Rumble just doesn’t give me the tone I want.

Are headphones my best option? I have a pair of Fender IEMs on the way that I’m hoping will allow me to get my tone. Anyone have any experience with the JHS little black box? I’m wondering if I should build my own real quick, throw it in the effects loop, and see if that will keep things at reasonable volumes.

Any advice appreciated!

Yeah. Turn down when she's there or get used to sleeping alone.
