Fender Rumble Club

Ermagerd, I just scored a new Stage 800 for $249.97 last night at Guitar Center. I stopped in there on my way to work just to grab some pickguard screws, and I happened to walk by the bass area, and there it was. The price looked off, $399 marked down to $249.97. I'm looking at the tag, and it's marked as a 40. The sales associate walks over and asks if I'm finding everything okay, and I tell him I'm looking at the amp. I ask him to verify the price, so he takes the tag and walks away. I expect him to come back over and tell me there's a mistake, but he came back and said the price was correct.
I'm a believer in karma, so I point out that the tag says it's a Studio 40, but the amp is a Stage 800. He carries the amp the the counter and askes his manager, the manager confirms the price. So I walked out of there with a new Stage 800 for $272 and some change. I'm super excited to get some play time with this thing.

I'm guessing the confusion is from the hang tag, since it says Studio 40 before it says Stage 800. I feel guilty, like I cheated or stole, but I pointed out that it's an 800 and they showed no interest in correcting the error. All I could have done differently is walk away, but then someone else would've bought it. Still, my excitement is tempered by the feeling on impending doom brought of by bad karma.
Like others have said, you did nothing wrong. You tried, they wouldn't listen, and someone else would have gotten the deal. Enjoy your new amp!

No wonder they are in financial trouble!!
Good Score though...I never get that lucky!! LOL!

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to see if I could join the club and get a number? Here is my beauty - Fender Rumble 100:

IMG_6503.jpg

Hi, Ridgey Bay! You sure can join up. @BayingRidge, you are now member #1274 in the Fender Rumble Club. Put that number in your TB signature for instant recognition as a bassist of distinction. Congratulations on that beautiful "Limited Edition" black grille Rumble 100 and welcome to The Club. We've seen precious few of the LE models, but there is a 25 in the Rumble Artwork section of the Rumble Club Wiki page copied from some member here. Also lotsa other Rumbling Info on the Wiki!

Please help us get to know you, Bay. Tell us of your bass experiences in general and your Rumble journey in particular. We've all kinds here but, when it comes to our amp of choice, we all love to ... . . . .

Rumble On!

Hey, har, do you still have your Rumble 500 combo? Did you ever get the tilt-back legs for it? Did you ever get the second R500c, instead of the 210 cab? Come on. How's your Rumbling going.

It is going Great! I now have 2 Rumble 500's. Ended up getting 2 Mudstand stands for my application. Of course 2020 was short on gigs. the only performing I did was in an theater playing mostly traditional country music. I place one on each side of the drum riser and angled for everyones pleasure. Linking them through the send output! It works out great! I really want to get a 2 x 10 rumble cabinet so I can leave that setup at the theater and have one 500 at home for any other gigging needs!

Well, har, it's about time you showed us a photo and got an official Club number. How 'bout it?

Question for the larger group - reading elsewhere on the site it seems like a LOT of members don’t hold the Rumbles in very high regard. Being newer to Bass (long time guitar player), amp technology has come a long way in terms of capability, technology, and cabinet design, not to mention things like ceramic magnets. Why the dislike (other than nostalgic reasons for tube amps, etc.)?

To me it seems that the Rumbles may be a bit too dark for some people and they can’t or don’t want to EQ it properly.

I have a couple of GB class D heads that are brighter and cleaner sounding, but also have a Super Bassman (all tube) head that sounds close to the Rumble.

I may be in the minority, because I can get a decent tone out of most any amp I play through, but then again I am not afraid to turn knobs or use my ears and not my eyes to EQ.

I feel my Rumble 500C is a great grab and go amp that can handle any gig I take it too.

YMMV

Well, Hotty. Other than the tube snobs, there are the "beginner amp" snobs, too, like I once was. Those cheap-o, low power V1 Rumbles of the 2000s kinda set the bar quite low for expectations. When the V2 came along with higher power, but still low prices, they were still considered "beginners amps", yes, even by me! Then the V3 came along with the Rumble 500 combo for just $500 and I had to try to confirm my suspicions of cheapness. But that R500c sure opened my eyes and made me a believer! Sadly, lotsa people still have that "beginner amp" attitude and aren't about to even try a pro level Rumble rig. That's my answer to your question.

I owned a Rumble 800 head for a while. While it is actually great sounding on its own, it just does not compete against some others. Its lack of definition makes it frustrating if you play 5 string bass. The low mids control just sound boxy an is useless IMO unless you cut that frequecy.
Those are the main (only) downside of these otherwise outstanding amps (for the price, keep that in mind). I ended up selling it and grabbed a Mesa D800 +. I might have kept it though if I only played 4 string basses.

The Rumble cabs on the other hand, are awful. The 115 is good, 410 and 210 suck.

View attachment 4090122 View attachment 4090123 I can only speak for myself. My 500c doesn’t sound like my SVT head and cab. However it sounds fine, doesn’t weigh 180 pounds and cost $500.
Only 180?(I had a mid 70's SVT/810 that totalled ~235). I'll take my R100 or R200c any day.
And as others have pointed out, the Rumbles EQ differently than anything else I've owned[2 P___'s, the SVT, 2 '63 piggyback Bassmans, 1 '68 piggyback Bassman, 1 Bassman 25].
