Seems pretty obvious to me...

Ermagerd, I just scored a new Stage 800 for $249.97 last night at Guitar Center. I stopped in there on my way to work just to grab some pickguard screws, and I happened to walk by the bass area, and there it was. The price looked off, $399 marked down to $249.97. I'm looking at the tag, and it's marked as a 40. The sales associate walks over and asks if I'm finding everything okay, and I tell him I'm looking at the amp. I ask him to verify the price, so he takes the tag and walks away. I expect him to come back over and tell me there's a mistake, but he came back and said the price was correct.
I'm a believer in karma, so I point out that the tag says it's a Studio 40, but the amp is a Stage 800. He carries the amp the the counter and askes his manager, the manager confirms the price. So I walked out of there with a new Stage 800 for $272 and some change. I'm super excited to get some play time with this thing.

I'm guessing the confusion is from the hang tag, since it says Studio 40 before it says Stage 800. I feel guilty, like I cheated or stole, but I pointed out that it's an 800 and they showed no interest in correcting the error. All I could have done differently is walk away, but then someone else would've bought it. Still, my excitement is tempered by the feeling on impending doom brought of by bad karma.
OMG!

Fantastic deal - congrats! Karmawise, I think you’re fine. After all, you asked for the price to be verified twice, and also alerted them to the fact that it was a Stage 800 and not a Studio 40. The rest is their responsibility. Business is business.

Wow! What a great score! Don't feel bad, you pointed the mistake out to the staff and they did nothing.

Congrats, great deal! Don't feel guilty at all, you gave them multiple chances to correct the mistake and they were obstinate.

BTW: they were not too bright generally, were they? Even if they don't play bass, it says 1x10" speaker on the pricetag while the 2 speakers are clearly visible through the grill. And they could have just checked the label on the back of the amp...

Just enjoy your new combo!

Hello All, I just got a crazy deal on a Rumble 2x10 cabinet- so I bought it to go with my Rumble 200 combo.

Does anyone know if it is ok to play the 200 combo on it's side. I want to put them both on their side - I like that profile better.

But was wondering about the cooling fan on the 200 and heat within the amp section.

Thanks and have a great Christmas time of the year!

Lenny

I'm pretty sure I've seen pics of a 200c on the side in this very thread. Heat should not be a problem as long as you leave room behind the amp. Vibrations however might be annoying if you do not add another set of rubber feet or something more temporary in between them. Note: I have not done this and do not have a 200c to test it in practice.

Oh, also congratulations on the cab deal and merry (early) Christmas :)

EDIT: You should not trust someone on the internet especially when they say they did not try this themselves but you can check the manual which states that IF the amp overheats in extreme conditions it goes in a thermal protection mode and you should in that case simply wait with power switched on and let the fan continue cooling it down so you can somewhat safely try it anyway!

Hi Lenny,

Check the pictures of my Rumble 500 combo, as far as I know the design of the Rumble 200 is identical.
I didn't check it but I would assume air is pulled in from the left (the large vent) and blown out by the fan at the right side (the square vent). So it would make most sense to put the combo on the left side (looking from the front) as the air would then flow from bottom (cold) to top (warm).

I would have no problems putting the 200 on its side, it should work fine.

a-37, my man! You posted almost exactly the words I was composing in my head! Except, I have done it, a bit, with my R500c and did put some extra rubber feet on the side as you suggest. Right on!

eric, that's an excellent visual recommendation! I think I actually put the extra rubber feet on my R500c on the wrong side. But, the few times I actually used it that way didn't have any problem. I'll consider moving them to the other side based on this analysis, when the gathering & gigging situation begins improving.

Also I like the @eric_B scientific approach to this but I would respectfully suggest that it might not make such a huge difference for cooling whether you do it the right side or the wrong side as long as there is room behind. You may want to put it on the side that allows for the easiest or least difficult reach to the controls.

Wait! Those need adjusting?

Yep, I laid my R500c on its right side (looking at the front) to put the controls on the right, since I'm right handed. Yes, @GonePlaid, I do occasionally adjust some of the controls. ;) That may be contrary to optimal air flow for cooling, but it didn't become an issue the few times I did it.

I've now made a mental note (as if I'll ever find it again! :rollno:) to monitor the temperature of the air flow coming out of that square vent next time I do this.
