Fender Rumble Club

Man, I've expended a considerable amount of mental energy these past couple days contemplating selling my pedalboard and using a Studio 40 as one to feed the 500H instead.:roflmao:

My biggest factor in deciding nah was that it'd still be a thing to hook up with just as many cables as the pedalboard and the Rumble 500 sounds the way I want. So really I wouldn't be buying for amp sims, and being as picky as I am about dirt pedals I figure I'm better off with my current setup.

That said I am replacing the SA Aftershock with a $30 fuzz pedal and an MXR bass distortion. I've really tried to live with the Aftershock but it's just too bassy and when I try to dial it out I just make things sound worse. I am just not good with distortion. Last time I bought a cheap fuzz I found the cheapest one available with a blend and I've never found one I liked better. So here's hoping lightning strikes twice! And if it doesn't I'll try and make a fuzz out of my 3 pedals.:bassist:
I keep a pedalboard for the simple reason that I frequently use whatever backline is available, so it doesn't make sense to rely on on-board effects. That said, the Studio 40 is a great way to avoid setting up the board for home practice, as well as a convenient way to try out new effects.

At this point I don't really see myself gigging. I'm actually looking into picking up a used Stage 800 to replace the 500 and pedalboard instead. Pocket some cash, save some floor space, better rearange my filming/recording section of the office, etc. If it weren't for the band likely getting back together post-COVID than it wouldn't even be a question, I would have dropped to just a Studio 40 a while ago. I love the Eminence 10s in the bigger Rumbles but they'll never get to stretch their legs at home.

Here's a pic of my new toy as requested. :)

There it is! Isn't it such a little cutie? @Mat Dean, you are now member #1343 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome to TalkBass in general and to The Club in particular. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping and make yourself at home here. Then check out our Rumble Club Wiki page for all assembled Rumbling wisdom and knowledge. But, for Fender bass modeling discussions, please give the non-modelers here a break and post those in our Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800 club sub-thread.

So, tell us a bit about yourself and your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular. Whatever your situation you're going to fit right in, 'cause we have all kinds here. But the one thing we all have in common is we all love to ... ...

Rumble On!
.

Is the quality of something like my rumble 100 way lower han, say a stage 800? How do they compare sound wise?
I think the 100 is where Fender starts to use all the fancier bits and better construction. So in theory there's no quality difference between a 100 and Stage 800.

Sound wise is anyone's guess but chances are you could make the Stage sound identical. These are the two Rumbles I haven't used but if I'm not mistaken the Stage uses the same speakers as the 500/210 and they're bomb. I found this video helpful when I was Rumble shopping. Which I guess I technically am again as I want a Stage but not at some of the prices I'm seeing.

I do indeed have some GAS. lol It's mostly dissipated. If this fuzz doesn't work out I'll just return it bite the bullet and buy

The 40 has the same controls as the 100. My little 25 is lacking. :(

Indeed. The 100 goes back to an Eminence speaker though and is constructed of lighter materials (or is that the 40 where that starts too?). Plus they added an effects loop. So even the 40 gets to have some sibling envy.

No need to be down on the 25 though! Those are very punchy little amps. I mighta bought one if it weren't for a dude deciding to play slap hero at stage volume right beside me that fateful day. They're good amps.:)

No, Kat, the quality of materials, design and build are quite comparable. In fact the Rumble 40's box & speaker is identical to the Studio 40 and, likewise, the Rumble 500 combo's box & speakers are identical to the Stage 800.

It's just the electronics in those boxes that are so different. The traditional analog electronics of the non-modeling Rumbles are just nowhere near as extremely flexible as the digital functionalities of the Stage & Studio electronics. It's like comparing the functionalities of an Apple Record to an Apple Computer!

Hope this helps.

Just slap a 10-band EQ in front of the amp then. It's not the same but that will give you 3 knobs and 10 sliders! I used to use a Donner Seeker EQ because I'm cheap and it worked great, but there's Boss, MXR, and all kinds of other ones out there! You could even pair multiple with different frequency points and turn your Rumble 25 into a studio mixing board!:roflmao:

That was very informative. From what I've listened to, the 15 inch sounds the best because it's the most clear and articulate.
The difference between the 12 and 15 isn't that big but I could still hear it. Good to know for future upgrades :)

I've mentioned a buncha times having had a R112 cab that I used with my R200c. And that I sold it 'cos it wasn't getting used. I rediscovered a video from a coupla years ago wherein I was playing the through the 200c/112. I think it sounds pretty good. Kinda makes me wish(A) I still had it, and(2), that I had a place to play it. Oh, well. Enjoy.

It do sound nice!
