Hmmm. ... ... We-e-e-ell doggies! I do declare ... ... ...

As does the Bassman 800!

The Rumble 800 HD also has those SpeakOn 1/4" Jack Combos, AKA "combicon" for combination connector, on them! So, maybe it's 450W that requires the non-1/4" SpeakOns?

What y'all think?

Yeap same as on most of my cabinets - Combo connectors. But on my older Quilter head (made since speakon are made) still has 1/4's only.

Yeap I read the posts with the international high power amps and ok I hear them.

But to me there still cheap plastic junk.

Funny thing - one of my Rumble 100's had an issue - NO SOUND. So I called a local repair company that has a great rep for Fender Bassmans and Flip tops. I told him what I had - and his answer was "throw it away and buy a new one". According to him Fender would not send parts to rebuild - but if under warranty would send you a new amp and wanted him to throw the old one away.

That is why we have so much trash in law fills - cheap plastic junk - what it seems the world is being made with.

I am not on a soap box now - But just think it is funny. What is really funny is that part of the movie "Aquaman" where the people of the sea washed all that junk back on the land.

G-Dog - thanks tho for all you efforts in finding the information - just pulling your chain a little my friend.

RUMBLE ON!!!!! They may be cheap to some, but I still like my Rumbles.

It's my understanding that SpeakOn connectors are required for higher powered amps and cabs. That's why the Rumble 500 has only ¼" connections and the Rumble 800 HD has SpeakOns (combicons, actually, that also accept ¼" plugs for low volume playing).
.
Yes my Rumble 500C has only the extension 1/4" connector out to an extension cabinet but the 115 ext cab has both connections...a 1/4" and a speakon..I actually have my ext. 115 cab connected through the speakon connector from the 1/4" amp connector. So G Doggy...should I be using only a 1/4" connector for the 115 cab instead..or does it not matter which?

I hope they are genuine Neutrik combo connectors.

... ... be sure to get cables with the genuine Neutrik branded connectors, there are many poor fakes on the market that are riddled with problems. ... ...

Apparently a great many SpeakOn knock-offs are very fragile junk!

One possible issue with some non-genuine Neutrik cable connectors is that the contact assembly comes loose inside and destroys the mating connector. A much more serious and expensive issue. ... ...

... SpeakOns work really well most of the time. I had over 100 SpeakOn cables in my touring PA rig (it was a pretty substantial PA), all set up 4 wire for BiAmping, and in 10 years I can only recall one bad cable. These were real Neutrik, with patch bays on each amp rack. That said, I am seeing more and more problems with off-shore connectors, counterfeits, and incorrectly assembled plugs. The most common cause of destructive failure is folks trying to solder them and deforming the housing slots that the contact assembly slides into. This causes them not to lay true and can get caught up on the mating connector, tearing both apart.

... ... Funny thing - one of my Rumble 100's had an issue - NO SOUND. So I called a local repair company that has a great rep for Fender Bassmans and Flip tops. Oh, Len! Did you try running a 1/4" plug in & out of the FX Return jack? There's a switch there that lets the pre-amp signal proceed to the power amp when the loop is not in use. When, not if, it becomes corroded it can cut off the signal. This is not an uncommon occurrence that your repair man should be aware of.

Also, the Overdrive button becomes a mute switch when the Drive & Level controls are both turned down to zero. I believe we've saved at least a couple of Rumblers here some repair costs with this one.

It's true that it's not economically feasible to actually repair the electronic components of today's such inexpensive equipment, whether 7ender or any other brand. But, relatively few seem to want to pay for the very labor intensive (and therefore expensive), but very repairable, point-to-point wiring of the very high priced "boutique" amps.

... ... G-Dog - thanks tho for all you efforts in finding the information - just pulling your chain a little my friend.. ... ...

You, and the rest of the Rumblers here, are all quite welcome, Len. That's what we do here. Pull that chain! I can take it. :D

Price is only one selling point. But they gotta also "bring the goods" or they won't sell very many. ;)

Well I think Fender obviously don't consider the 500C powerful enough to warrant using a Speakon connector or they would have added one.

Giffy, it seems to me that it really doesn't much matter which connector you use. If you have a genuine Neutrik SpeakOn-to-1/4" cable you might use that if you have any safety concerns. But, other than that, ... ...

Yes. Remember, the cab(s) can only get up to 250W.

This is the connector I use...not cheap (cost was $24.95USD)

I can't tell from here. Does the SpeakOn connector say "Neutrik" anywhere on it? If not, I'd return it for a refund or a genuine Neutrik replacement.

Yep Doggy...I noticed that Speakon connector a couple years ago when I bought the 115 cab...I thought it odd that it looked like it also took a 1/4" plug in the centre of the Speakon plug...so I also tried a 1/4" into it and it also worked..so as you say its a combination connector.

You got me wondering about the SpeakOn-to-SpeakOn cable that came with my Bassman 500 amp. But, ... Whew! ... yep, they're Neutrik, too. Once again, Fender does it right.

That's "Neutrik" etched into the metal parts. Sorry for the blurriness. Still learning the new phone/camera.

Also, Liechtenstein!

Been to Liechtenstein once. On the Thalys train from Paris and Brussels to Köln (Cologne). I blinked...and missed it. :roflmao:

I found your post, Len, where you pulled the "dead" amp from your R100 to give away. Did you find a taker? Or do you still have it for checking the FX Return jack corrosion and the Overdrive-turned-Mute switch?

Yes, Fender is well aware of the Knock-off SpeakOn quality issue.

Glad to hear that, sir. Thank you. Sorry if my copies of your posts pinged you with multiple notifications.

Could you please tell us at what wattage level the SpeakOn is currently required by regulation over the 1/4" jack & plug? And what is the logic behind using SpeakOn-1/4" combo connectors on an 800W amp that can put up to 400W into 8 ohms?

G-Dog - actually I still have it and it is in the garage somewhere. I am going to look and get it out and try what you mentioned to do. Will let you know how it turns out. And thank for the ideas to try. Lenny

Lenny, I just remembered a very simple check for the corroded FX Return jack switch! Just plug an instrument cable from the FX Send to the FX Return. If that works, then just put a little swab of contact cleaner on the switch. (You might even be able to see it with the amp disembodied.)

OK, time for a maxima mea culpa. Yes, I have been to Liechtenstein, travelling between Innsbruck and Zurich, but not on the Thalys from Paris to Köln. Liechtenstein is surrounded by Austria to the east and Switzerland to the west...a long way from Paris, Brussels and Cologne. And anyway, the Thalys goes nowhere near Luxembourg, which is bordered by France, Belgium and Germany. Sheesh.

And where was the legion of TB fact-checkers?

I plead dain bramage. :rollno:
