Fender Rumble Club

Right on. Thanks!
The owner's manual could be a little more clear on this point but,
"GAIN — Adjusts the incoming signal level from your bass, optimizing
the preamp signal level for a variety of basses." and also this very important tip they have in red "The GAIN control will also affect the level of distortion/compression if VINTAGE and/or OVERDRIVE are selected."
Most people are used to having a channel volume and not a gain control. It's a fairly unique design, and new to the V3 Rumbles. It's just one of the ways in which they are able to go so LOUD! And sound so good doing it. All part of the Rumble MoJo.

I just spent an hour at Guitar Center giving the Rumble 200 a tryout. What a magical amp. I really wish they had a 500 to demo. Rumble 200 is more than loud enough for my needs, but I'd be curious what the 210 configuration of the 500 sounds like.

They had some TC250's and a couple of Acoustics there, and the Acoustics rather surprised me with their quality as well. Neither was cost competitive with the rumble though.

I was pretty impressed by a MarkBass, I can't remember the model, but its retails for $899 and puts 400 watts through a single 12. Not very big cab either. I thought that amp sounded quite nice and would be plenty workable at home, so its seems like the Rumble 500 would probably work well too if you dial back the gain.

Talk to me about 500 head with the 115 vs the 500 combo.
If you are gigging heavily or are going to, you will want/need a pair of 115's pure and simple. As a rule of thumb, 2x15 = 4x10 as far as amount of air moved and total SPL. A Rumble 500 head + 2x Rumble 115 cabs = $1,000 USD. A Rumble 500 combo + Rumble 210 = $900 USD. Take your pick.

If you are just jamming with friends and a typical bar gig here and there + personal practice a Rumble 200 combo will do just fine. Sound quality will be pretty much the same as a Rumble 500 head + 115 cab. Headroom will be the biggest difference, and $$$ $400 USD vs $700 USD. Again take your pick.

I have a rumble 500 combo, and even when my my band gets loud (enough to make your ears ring afterwards), the 500 combo is fine. It actually feels as though it's cruising. I've never had the master volume past 1pm. A week or two ago i did an outdoor gig, where we kept the volume reasonable and there was PA support. I wasn't in the PA. Peeps in the audience said the bass was perfect. I am assuming they were also referring to the stellar playing :-)
I didn't like it with the 210 extension, but I am in the minority. I love it with my GK NEO 115-III, although for most jobs the extra cab i
For only a hundred bucks difference, for me the 500 vs 200 was a no-brainer. Penny-wise, dollar foolish and all that.

I think we need a sticky to this effect.

Setting update. A flat preampnsetting for the rumble 500 is

Bass 11:00
Lowmid 1:00
High mid 2:00
Treble 8:30

Thats pretty flat with alittle high end rolloff way up. Set like that, you will now be hearing more of the speakers tone, amp compression, etc. With the s2010's I like this flat setting at gig volume. Not so much with the stock drivers

Thanks kringle77. I also back off the treble to 9 o'clock. Voiced at 10kHz the treble control is really more like a presence control to me. I like colored tone so I never worry about flat, but that's just me. If I'm playing my round strung Jazz aggressively I'll dial in more high mids around 2 o'clock just like you have. For my flat strung Precision, I'll back the high mids down at bit to 11 o'clock.

Hi guys, this may be off topic of current thread but I use a VT Bass DI...usually in "always on" kind of way... and am currently plugging into the front of my Rumble 500 combo just like a stomp box...maybe its been brought up but can I plug this box directly into the effects return and bypass the combos pre?...is it really that simple to get the effect of my pedal, bypass the combos pre, and essentially just use the amp as a powered cab?...sounds to easy....what are the pros and cons to this type of set up if any? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Peace

That's cool - I'm going to try this tomorrow. I've been running my 500 combo and 115 cab flat for the last few weeks, so it's a good chance to try something else!

Sure you can go direct into the effects return if you want. The pro is that you by pass the pre-amp, so if you're looking for that SVT sound that's how to get it. The con is that you by pass that delicious sounding pre-amp and all it's wonderful tone shaping ability to include the best Overdrive in the world.

Cool...thanks Linnin...I'll check it out....I do like the sound of the amp....but man, I am really accustomed to the sound of playing through the VT Bass...I will be doing some A/B testing on the different paths....Thanks again...I am really gassing to stack a new Rumble 210 cab under the 500 combo..I know mixing cabs usually is taboo but I was wondering about a carvin brx 210 underneath to save some money....anyone think they could play nice together...or will they fight?

Thanks for that. It is very useful to know what the flat is. I am going to keep it flat and make adjustments in my bass.
