Fender Rumble Club

General repair question? I have a failed 500 combo...6 years old! The cost to fix may be too much so I want to convert the combo to a speaker cabinet only but still maintain the tweeter on or off selection. Does anyone know the part numbers or where I can get access for a plate like what is on the 210 extension cabinet 2380100000? Or guide me in what parts I will need and best place to get them to achieve this?
I have read the conversion posts that have been made but none retain the tweeter function? Any info ??

Thanks!

General repair suggestions! Are you 100% sure your 6-year-old R500c is dead?

1. Have you tried running an instrument cable from the FX Send to the FX Return? That can cure a corroded cut-off switch in the FX Return jack. If that works, then you just need to clean that switch with a small dab of contact cleaner.

B. Have you checked to be sure the Overdrive button is not engaged with the Drive and Level controls both turned down to zero? That has saved a couple of Rumblers some repair costs. It is also used by some Rumblers as a "mute" button!

@munkeyfish and @LennyJ, you are the last two I recommended these procedures to. Have you not tried them, yet?

Thanks for reminding me! I just sprayed the DeOxit and did the insert/twist/Remove and repeats a million times, to all the 1/4" inputs, I'll give it a bit to completely dry out and fire it up and see if the results are what we are hoping for. I'm hoping so and I think it is exactly what is needed as I don't think I've ever used the FX loop on this thing.

@G-Dog Seems to have done the trick. I turned it on without issue (I mean just the normal few seconds warmup) It seems to be working back to 100% now. I tried out a few times, off and on. I'll try again a couple hours and then tomorrow too.

Can't wait to play the Zoom B6 through it.

Thanks again for the recommendation, gives me a little peace of mind to but it back in gigging rotation. Bassman and my EA iAmp/Wizzy Combo/Wizzy cab extension have been getting all the gigs lately. 98% Bassman 500/Pro-410 cab though, lol

That's great to hear, munkey! If you ever get any humidity there in Florida,, that can contribute to the switch in the FX Return corroding and cutting off the signal to the power amp. This could also be true of other amps beside the Rumble, if you want to check them, too. ;)

I have tried all of these without any luck. Deoxed everything and tried all these things and it still crackels and has a distorted sound from DI, External speaker output and putting two Rumbles together with effects loop. My other 500 C works great. This one it does get a little better as it warms up but I think there is a weak component involved. I plan to take it to a tech but put a cap on how much I will spend. Just thinking of my options if that amp repair is too steep! Thanks!!

I keep my amp covers on my Rumble 500 Combo always when I'm not using it. It stops dirt and dust entering the top and rear air vents. It also stops dust and dirt entering any of the 1/4" sockets too.
Besides dirt and dust there is another enemy to consider also.
Insects.
I have used a reasonably cheap product to good effect over the years on a lot of my STORED/UNUSED amp heads like my Peavey MKIV which has a lot of 1/4 front mounted sockets for various plugs.

Insects like moths and spiders can crawl into these socket holes and cause all sorts of issues to the socket itself and any internal electronics if they wish to build a web or a nest. This isnt a main problem I have but in our Aussie climate we do get a lot of spiders and bugs and flying insects, so an extra layer of protection for my amps and cabs for a cheap price is always good planning ahead.
I use Neutrik 1/4" Dummy Jack Plugs NDJ to cover the send/return/footswitch/ext cab jacks/sockets at approx $1AUD a pop.

Owners of the Fender Rumble 500 Combo would have an uphill battle keeping insects out of the air vents and jacks/sockets because there is a large amount of vents at the rear, but if kept covered with good amp covers most of the dirt/dust issues are negated. This doesnt stop creepy crawlies from getting in though, hence my use of the Neutrik Dummy Plugs.
Owners of the Rumble 500 Heads have less of an issue with no large vent holes as such but if the head isnt kept covered or in a bag the insect problem still can occur.
Below is a pic of the Neutrik 1/4" Dummy Jack Plugs I use (Google them..ebay sells them from various stockists).
Just a thought for that odd occasion if you open your amp up and find cocoons and spider webs inside...These plugs may help, together with a decent amp cover to keep your equipment safe from dirt, dust, insects.

G-Dog

Tried your ideas - no luck. Then I opened her up and found some burned components, So I figure she is done for.

But on the good side, ever after some thinning - I still have 1 Rumble 100 and looking at getting another 200.

So sorry, Lenny. Of course these things happen, too. Good attitude, sir.

I started out with the Rumble 100, which in my opinion is a perfect home practice amp. Tons of tone shaping options, aux in, phones out, size/weight, etc.

I recently started practicing with a 50s/60s rock and roll cover band and I had to turn the 100 up a little too much for my taste. So I remedied that problem by picking up a used Rumble 500 for $350 :D

Only a slight increase to size/weight and it solved the issue. In fact, at the next practice, I brought the 500 and setup like usual, the guys didn't notice the difference until we started to play :roflmao:

When you gotta move some air, Rumbles are great. Beans, not so much.

Our group does mostly 60s/70s rock and some crossover country. I used my R100 Saturday evening on a parking lot gig. Turned up a little more than usual(GAIN-noon, VOLUME-11, EQs 10, 2, 2, 10, VINTAGE-on, OD-mute). Plenty.

Excuse to upgrade? We don't need no stinkin' excuse. Or to replicate, in my case. I've been going through withdrawal 'cause my Rumble 40 is currently living in the theater where I'm playing in the pit for La Cage Aux Folles. Four more weeks, and another theater gig in the works soon after that. So today I went over to my local GC and traded in an old speaker cab I don't need any more, for another Rumble 40. So I can Rumble at home, or wherever else I need to, whilst my first Rumble 40 is camping out in theaters. Definitely a first world problem, and it's nice to be able to afford this stuff. Rumble on....

Nice!

I wonder if they would sell a lot of Rumble Preamp/DI boxes? Sounds like people use a small Rumble amp for that purpose with of course an included monitor speaker there. But just a DI box could be useful. And people would probably buy one as a pedal to put in front of and change the sound of their non-Rumble amp….

If they had the Studio/Stage stuff in a pedal/preamp I would buy that in a heartbeat.
