Can you play the Studio 40 without any of the modeling and effects, if you want to? Would it sound the same as a standard Rumble 40, if none of the models are used?

The 40 is a bitchin amp. Only thing I was disappointed with is the lack of effects loop, but that's not a huge thing.

The Studio 40 has a Rumble v3 preset! It adds both mid-range tone controls.

Tone tip….for the basic Rumbles. Popping the overdrive on can reduce bass output vs. the clean tone. But if you also add in the contour or vintage button it brings the bass back up to balance. Quicker than readjusting the bass eq knob anyways.

Greg is quite right, HB. There is no easy way to do what you want without some seriouly warranty voiding modifications to some of the equipment, like rewiring the cabs to lesser impedance or replacing some, or all, the speakers.

However, you can very easily connect two stock 210 cabs to the Rumble Stage 800 bass modeling combo (same dimensions as the R500c), since it can handle a 4 ohm total extension cab load by switching the Impedance Switch:

In fact, I've been encouraging our Rumble Stage owners to post a pic of such a triple decker stack! But so far, no takers. Maybe you could be the one! Just be forewarned that the bass modeling Stage (and the smaller Studio 40) are totally different beasts from all the other Rumbles!!!

You could make a cable that puts the two extension cabs in series, giving 16 ohms, but the 500's internal speaker impedance is 8 ohms, which means only 1/3 of the power would go to the two 2x10 cabs. You'd get full power but those extra cabs wouldn't be moving as much air as the internal speakers.

No, the Stage & Studio have no unmodeled pre-amp. You have to select a modeled amp at the very least. But there is a physical X FX button for globally turning off all effects on all presets, so that the selected amp is all you hear.​

If you select the Rumble V3 amp model, yes, it sounds like a standard Rumble. The Studio has a tweeter for high frequencies, which the regular Rumble 40 does not. But the Rumbles 200 and 500 also have tweeters. So you can use the physical horn on/off switch on the back of the Stage and Studio to more closely simulate the horned or hornless Rumble models.

The Studio has a tweeter for high frequencies, which the regular Rumble 40 does not. And I haven't found that the tweeter on the Studio can be turned off to more closely simulate the Rumble 40, or 100, sound.

I happen to have my Studio 40 here next to me and mine has an on/off switch for the horn, just like my Stage 800 (also next to me).
