Fender Rumble Club

Ow!! I think you'll be very hard pressed to find such a good deal elsewhere, mixxy. It could be worth giving 'em one more chance. But, if that second chance also goes awry, I sure wouldn't blame ya for not giving it a third go. But, of course, ya gotta suit yourself.

Hey all - A little update on the Rumble 200C saga.

I returned the amp to amazon & got my refund.
I was thinking of re-ordering the 200C, but thought I'd wait a few days to see if there might be a year end sale etc...

Today on a whim I decided to google each model combo - starting with the 500C

Well to my surprise, a listing for a deal at Sam Ash came up - $552.49 with free shipping + before tax with the coupon code.

I didn't search any farther & ordered the amp. Seemed like a pretty good deal to me, considering what new ones are going for!

For those interested - Link to the deal.

I hope this one goes better than then last one! Here's hoping!

Can I ask any of the Rumble club members here that are using the Rumble Studio 40 about their experiences with it. Ease of programming, quality of the sounds, how does it hold up being hauled to gigs, any issues?

Anything you can tell me. I've seen some Youtube videos and am giving one some serious thought. The downside for me is there is no store within a 2 hr drive that has one I can try out. I currently have a Rumble 100 and could couple those together if it isn't loud enough for a stage monitor. But since we are cajon/guitar/bass it may work for us.

Thanks!

... ... Here are some things I like about it, compared to the regular 40.

1) It has a Rumble v3 preset that gives you 4 band EQ control (vs the 3 band physical control knobs).

2) It has a tweeter, which is useful in some cases.

3) It has both Pre-DI and Post-DI XLR outputs (and I just learned today that you can use both at the same time).

4) It has some [internal] sound insulation padding that the regular 40 didn't.

5) It supports the 7-button GTX-7 footswitch (must be selected via Setup). [Available separately]

6) Make 100% certain that the wi-fi is off except for BIOS [firmware] updates, or you'll get audio dropouts (documented by Fender, but caught me by surprise (didn't read the manual; ha)).

7) It works with the Fender Tone App on Android (and maybe on iPhones; defaults to Mustang guitar presets until connected to the Studio 40/Stage 800 via Bluetooth).

8) It comes with black grill cloth and not gray[/silver]!!!

9) There are 100 presets. Some sound really good. I was happy to find a preset for the Fender Bassman. That was my first amp. I had a late '64 model.

10) There are 100 spare preset slots for your use (either completely new presets or modded versions of existing ones).

11) It's got some decent FX like reverb that you can add (and [can setup] stereo DI).

I haven't yet tried chaining my Studio 40 to my GR Bass AT Cube 500 combo. That would probably generate complaints from my neighbors in the building. :roflmao::bassist::hyper:

This video uses the GTX-7 with the Mustang amp, but everything works the same for the Studio and Stage Rumbles.

Forgive me, Maarti, for editing your post.

Shorty, there's a lot to be said about the Rumble Stage & Studio amps. That's one reason we have the Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800 sub-thread to this Club thread, specifically for discussing them and keeping this main Club thread more generally Rumbley. But I'll give you my quick answers to your first questions here. Any further questions, please post on the LT25, Studio, Stage sub-thread.

  • using the Rumble Studio 40 about their [my] experiences with it.
In a word: fantastic! I was smitten the moment I heard about the Stage & Studio amps' introduction in 2018. Probably because I've enjoyed a great experience with it's grandfather, the Fender B-Dec 30 bass modeling amp, for 15 years or so.
  • Ease of programming,
In a word: intuitive! Using the Fender TONE App on a phone or tablet lets you just drag & drop amps, effects & cabs into a string for a new preset. Or you can simply tap on an amp or effect and actually turn the virtual knobs of those components to adjust them!
  • quality of the sounds,
A subjective topic: Fans like it a lot. They are great, rich and varied tones, with almost limitless controls to keep you interested. Detractors seem to be threatened and deprecate it as "not as accurate as their preferred multi-thousand dollar profilers and FRFR cabs." I won't argue that point.
  • how does it hold up being hauled to gigs,
I started hauling mine to twice weekly church gigs and monthly jams in early 2019, after getting a nice rugged cover. Not so much in mid-2020 to late 2021. Gradually more each month since then to now weekly jams, sometimes twice a week and a weekly church gig and approx. monthly other gigs (no smoky bars). It still looks, works and sounds like new. Not as heavy as its still like-new 15-year-old grandfather B-DEC, which saw the same frequent use before it, but I expect it to hold up just as well.
  • any issues?
Communication of technicalities seems to be an issue. Many users suffered mystifying sound cut-outs before getting the word from Fender to keep wifi turned off unless updating the firmware! Also, some users didn't know that =1414841']can't see 5Ghz wifi networks; control the Tone App or stream music to the amp, not both simultaneously. And some users have discovered that the amps Please remember to use the Rumble LT25, Stage 40 & Stage 800 sub-thread for further inquiry!
  • Anything you can tell me.
  1. Easy to use, very flexible, lots of fun, great sounds, 40 is ultra-lightweight, 800 is super-powerful. Don't let the manual intimate you, it's easier than they make it look.
  2. The 40 and 800 have all the same digital features, only difference is the power amps! The LT25 is attractively priced, but not nearly as many features, or connections, as the 40 & 800.
  3. wi-fi is off except for BIOS [firmware] updates.
  4. Did I mention it's lots of fun? Enjoy!!

Got it, thanks for pointing out the sub-thread. I can admit I didn't search farther than this Rumble club. Since it was a Rumble. :D

Thanks for the info too, appreciate it.

Wow! mixxy, that 15% discount code also works on the new R800c, too!!! I'm sorely tempted! Not quite the 19% discount you had on the R200c, but still pretty dang good!

“I’m not liiiistening!” (Earplugs in, noise-cancelling phones over ears, large pillow wrapped around head)
“Two R100s are all the amp I need. Two R100s are all the amp I need. Two R100s are all the amp I need. Two R100s are all the amp I need. …”

Plus, I just bought a second Greco Thunderbird.

One for each R100?;)

Since you're using all active basses, I think I'd start at bringing the gain down considerably--like south of noon. I used to have a Sterling and I found the gain at +/- 9:00 or less gave a really clean, tight low end. I'm not afraid to dial the Master all the way up. (further, if I need it...). If you need more, add gain to taste. Your results may vary.

Tim

I will try to tone down the gain and see. Unfortunately I will have to wait until next year to try it out :(

Is the amp on the floor? If so, does raising it help reduce/eliminate the boominess? I have my GR Bass and Rumble amps stacked, so using a tilt-back stand wouldn't work for me. I use an Auralex GRAMMA v2 acoustic isolation pad to separate the bottom amp from the floor.

I put it on a foldable chair since I assume it is better than nothing, otherwise if it is on the floor then I try to tilt it up abit. But I am looking something proper to lift off from the ground

Gain and master at 2-3 ought to be really loud and handle any drummer I would think, or he is REALLY pounding the crap out of those drums! Although moving the bass to 9-9:30 is not unusual for me, but I always keep the low/high mids in the 1-2 range, and if anything, bump the treble up to 11 or 12 to cut through the guitars better as it is a bit more of a distinctive bass tone, if that makes sense.
When I practice with current band, drummer (fairly loud one) 2 guitars and myself, and think the band is way too loud for the practice room, but I still only have my R100 gain and volume at noon. Everything else is close to what is flat, i.e. 10/2/2/10 and vintage on.
I have found that if I also engage the drive (been experimenting with this lately for fun) and put drive/level both at noon, it gives the bass just a little grit/growl, but not overly so. Even adds a bit of volume to my ears, but everyone's ears are different.
Good for 70s/80s/classic/southern rock that we play.

If I up the Mids then the sound becomes too metallic/Clanky which I dislike a bit. But another member suggested maybe I should turn the gain down and up the master more since most of my basses are active basses.

I have all of these. Which one I use depends on the location.

Awesome Jake! Do you prefer to mic the amp instead using the XLR Out? Or is it the soundman's choice?
.
Sound guy’s choice. Actually he both mic’ed the amp and used the XLR out. I’ve known sound guys to do that so they can mix both incoming signals, though most of these guys don’t know about the built-in cab sim. Still, I see no harm in it, and the sound guy was happy with the result.
