Fender Rumble Club

An additional question about using a preamp w/ Rumble 500c.

Is there a way of having access to two distinct EQ settings using an external preamp/eq? From what I can tell the external preamp either bypasses the Rumble head (via effects) or goes through it and get colored.

In addition to rock, blues, metal — we do some Reggae, I like different eq settings for that.

is there a way to switch back and forth between and external set up and the rumble head?

sorry for all the rookie question. Trying to learn how this/these things work.

I guess that could be done with an AB(Y) box. like theese: Amazon.com : aby pedal

Code:
                         A => rumble in
instrument (Y) BOX <
                         B => OD => rumble efx return

Basically switching between the two whole EQ/preamp sections.
This method makes it fiddly to set up, as You have to adjust Your overall volume at two places: the amp and the preamp pedal, as they are two completely different signal paths.

Nah, this method would not work, I have to rethink this....

The answer: https://www.amazon.com/EX-Effects-S...ords=Loop+Switcher&qid=1710094504&sr=8-3&th=1

You need basically 2 "effect loops", but the concept is kind of the same.

A loop is: instrument > loop pedal in > A send > rumble in > rumble fx send > A return > pedal out > rumble FX return
B loop is: instrument > loop pedal in > B send > OD/EQ > B return > pedal out > rumble FX return
The stuff in bold red are the common path of the signal, rest is send A or B way.

Or just use an EQ (or multieffect with presets, etc.) in front of the rumble and keep the amp kind of "flat".

I also use my right hand a lot to shape the sound, sometimes the tone pot on my P.

But! My Yamaha bass has 5 EQ presets (and a 2-band EQ and 2 blendable PUs) with a strat-like 5-position blade switch on the instrument itself! see EQ section here:
TRBX - 300 Series - Yamaha USA

Lotsa' options to shape our sound, huh? :)

Too many options really. Especially for someone like me who is just getting into “knobs, buttons, and extras”.

If I went the ABY route, I do not think I would use the Y (who knows) but, is there a basic AB switch, that y’all would recommend?.

I assume some are better than others and some are overkill (and expensive) for what I am trying to accomplish.

ABY route: edited my post, it would only work with an AB loop switcher (almost same thing, but works in this scenario :D)

I'd start with a multieffect. Easy to try lots of different things on a budget and make presets.

Or the studio40/stage800, they got multieffects/presets built in...

1. Is there a standard operating procedure to equalizing the volumes of the amp in OD and non-OD settings. I seem to muddle through it, eventually. But if there is "quick set up" I'd be interested to know it. ... ...

Yes. On rumbles (40 and above) the Level control is for that exact purpose in the OD section. Can even turn it to 0 for a mute! ... ...

Wow, I have really been over complicating it.

Perhaps reading the fine manual can help? See F.

i just run an eq pedal in front of the amp and switch it in (98% of the time) or out.

Agreed, but in my defense my previous reading of the manual did not play a big role when it came to how many knobs I was moving around ;) . I actually thought level was like an biamp effect — coloring the signal, as opposed to simply increasing the OD volume. but y’all have straightened me out. And for that, I thank you. Like I said. You’re dealing with a rookie here. I appreciate the patience in the club.

I dunno 'bout you, Henry, but I don't get everything out of a single reading of a manual. Even if I think I know what a knob does, I often check the manual to be sure. That's how I learn. My memory is too cluttered to try to remember things so easily referenced as the links on your Rumble Wiki page.

I was doing an A/B comparison of my new Fender Rumble 800HD head against an Ampeg SVT 4 Pro today.

The Ampeg has flat settings with the Ultra Low setting on.

Attached is a picture of my rumble head matched to the tone of the SVT 4 Pro.

It was incredibly close... give it a shot everyone. It’s a great tone.

Btw, master can be set to whatever you need and I was using the same cab for both (Fender rumble 410).

Oh, the Vintage and Contour switches are on.

very cool. I don’t always want SVT tone but now I can have it when I like. Although my basses are set up with high pickups so I have to back off on the gain or it’s very overdriven.

This does definitely work. A BOSS LS-2 is one of the solutions to this.

Anyone have a favorite amp cover? Looking for something padded. I got a Studio Slips cover with a used 210 cabinet I bought used. That cover, new, costs more than I paid for the cabinet (I got a better deal on the cab than I thought!). While that cover is great, not looking to pay $250 for a cover for my Stage 800 (should be the same size as a Rumble 500 cover).

What cover do you use to transport your amp?

Many years ago I gave up waiting for 7ender to make a cover for my Rumble 500 combo and ordered a very nice, fairly heavy cover from MDB that has been great ever since. I really like 7ender amp covers, they're quite inexpensive and sturdy enough for me. Of course, shortly after that is when 7ender started making Rumble covers. [sigh]

Likewise, after getting my Rumble Studio 40, I couldn't find an actual 7ender cover for it, although I considered cutting down a Rumble 100 cover (same W & similar D, just too tall). Did I mention I really like 7ender covers? Yeah, OK. Also at that time I had trouble contacting MDB, though I really like my R500c cover. So, I got a very nice, fairly heavy LeCover for my RS40 and it's been great. It's very similar to my MDB cover. Both were more expensive than the 7enders, but also slightly heavier, though not padded. I believe both do make reasonably priced padded covers. ;)

For your RS800 I wouldn't hesitate on the 7ender cover. I have them for other amps and, though some put them down as "just dust covers", I'm careful moving my amps and they have held up very well. YMMV.

That looks good! How's the padding? A Tuki cover is about $35 more, but the padding looks superb, at least as good as my Studio Slips padding. And the site I'm finding for Custom Amp Covers shows they are manufactured in the US.

FENDER RUMBLE 500 V3 2x10 COMBO AMP COVER

The padding seems fine to me. It wouldn't protect much against dropping it onto the concrete from more than a few inches, but that's not why I bought these covers. For bouncing around in the gigmobile, protection against short term temperature extremes, etc., they do great.
