Fender Rumble Club

NAD! R100

Long story short: I sold all my amps except my v1 R30. It’s a nice little amp, but I’ve been ramping up bass playing again so I was thinking about a v3R40 or something similar so I can get the line out feature.

Well, my local shop had this minty, tags-still-on “used” R100 priced at $250. Throw in a $50 gift card I had, I walked out with this bad boy for $200! Should be all the amp I’ll need for the foreseeable future, I’m a happy camper!View attachment 7368028
Well, THAT sure worked out. Nice pickup! Enjoy.

Posted October 20, 2023: I needed a new rehearsal amp, and found this Rumble 30 on CL. Haven’t put it through the paces yet but demo at home- it thumps! A little cleaner than the v3, really like the tone :)

Yowza, Al! But, surely you know (and I'm not calling you Shirley), that your Rumble 30 is a V2, ... not a V1.

But, YEAH, that looks like a killer deal for a good condition R100! Is it a newer Pre/Post R100? Or the original non-Pre/Post R100?

Haha I stand corrected!

It does not have the pre/post button. While I think it was a smart addition on Fender’s part, rarely felt the need in my personal experience with the Rumbles. So no issues here, I’m enjoying having a v3 again!

No prob, Bug Al. It's a common mistake due to similar cosmetics of the V1s and V2s. But the V3s are certainly more distinctive looking. And the non-Pre/Post R100s seem to also be just as current as those with Pre/Post. Welcome back to V3 town!

Yeah, the addendum explains the changes being due to "supply issues" . But, from the reception of many Rumblers, they do seem to have made a smart move out of that difficult situation.

I'm a sucker for blue P basses. Lovely!
Me too!

Well, I guess gimme a number! I can NOT believe the toanz this little box is able to push out!!! Wow! I put it through it’s paces Guitar Center a little bit, but then I got it home and put my pedalboard through it and it’s incredible. I even like the overdrive. Solid stuff. I can’t wait to hear how it sounds with the band. Rumble 800 ftw. View attachment 7368452

Howdy! @Giff, you are now member #1882 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

How about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Rumble On!

Thanks for the welcome, @G-Dog ! I’ve been a music lover all my life, but I started playing guitar when I was 16. I have played bass on and off since 2000ish when a bass player was needed worse than another guitarist! I love Progressive Rock of the 70s and Indie Rock of today. I am in a cover band that leans heavily on Stones, Tom Petty, REM, Men At Work et al. I am mainly a pick user, but for simple stuff, I can do the fingers thing… Moody Blues is probably my all time favorite band.

I was just spinning them last night!

So can I join the club even though my Rumble 500 won’t be delivered until Monday? I am excited to get it. I had a Rumble 100 once but it didn’t have enough power for what I was doing at the time. The 500 should put out enough watts to gig with I would assume. I wanted the Rumble Stage 800 but was exchanging a defective saxophone for some other gear and didn’t have quite enough for the 800.

Hi all. I just purchased my first Rumble bass amp. A Rumble 500. I needed something with a lot of punch for playing gigs. I haven’t received it yet but I am looking forward to it. I am hoping I really like the vintage setting. Can anyone tell me how the amp sounds on this setting? I wanted the Stage 800 but didn’t have quite enough cash for it after also buying a new Fender Player II P Bass. I am hoping it sounds good for R&B, jazz, gospel, Motown and of course Memphis Soul. Even though my avatar show Dee Dee Ramone I don’t really play punk except for my own enjoyment.
Hola, Soul-man! @Memphis Soul, you are now member #1881 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Please put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

The Vintage voicing will tend to give you a great Motown sound, Memphy! A nice phat tone with punch. Enjoy!

You done did, Soul-man! You done joined. Remember? See above. You're Rumbler #1881, Memphy. See there? Congratulations again and welcome again! 😉

I do believe you'll find the Rumble t00 to be your Huckleberry. I've been playing one for over 11 years now and, lemmee tell you, it's a real workhorse all by itself. And if you add a 8 ohm minimum, 250 watt continuous minimum extension cabinet, it'll become a monster onstage!! 🤩

We would still like to get to know you better by hearing a bit about your musical background and all your Rumble adventures, if you would be so kind. 🤗

Oh ok thank you! I started playing guitar and bass in high school in the 80s. I played for a a good many years with different local bands. Nothing big time then I kinda let life get in the way and stopped playing for about ten years. A couple of years ago I got the urge to start playing again and have been practicing to get back into gigging but haven’t started yet but plan on it very soon that’s why I need the bigger Rumble. I had the Rumble 100 a couple of years ago when I was playing with some guys but nothing ever materialized from it but this time I knew I needed something with more power. That’s pretty much me in a nutshell. I hope to start a jazz trio with me on bass, an electric guitar and a drummer. I’ve seen similar on YouTube with an electric bass and I really like it. Has a different sound than with an upright but I think it sounds cool. Probably don’t need the 500 for that group but there will be others as well.

Can you share any of those electric jazz examples? I have been looking at adding some more actual jazz instead of just fusion and don't plan to ever play double bass. We already do a little bit of jazz like Mercy, Mercy, Mercy - half the time with a horn and half with just electric guitar and me on electric bass.

I use a Rumble 100 now, just had a show tonight. The downside to the 100 is that without a tweeter it's very beamy and doesn't have the detailed treble. I might find myself with an 800 eventually just for the high end...

One of the best examples you'll find -- Steve Swallow on electric bass, John Scofield on electric guitar, Bill Stewart on drums. I'm sure you can find more -- YouTube is your best friend for finding stuff.

That is great! That’s exactly the kind of trio I want to have and I love that the bass player plays with a pick as do I. I have never been able to play with my fingers. I have tried it just doesn’t work.

What do you mean by “beamy”?
