Fender Rumble Club

Has anyone tried to daisy chain small (40 or 100j Rumble combos?

I have one R40. I'm starting in a new acoustic band and I'm too lazy to carry the combo between two rehearsal places. I'm thinking of buying another combo. My options are 40 or maybe 100. The R100 would be more powerfull. However, I've been gigging with my R40 many times in small places and only once I regretted not bringing my 500H and cab.

What do you think, if I'd buy another R40 and if one wouldn't be enough, I would daisy chain them. Has anyone tried this with the new Rumbles? The problem I see, there is no FX loop in R40 and the line out is after master volume. Is it still possible to slave them or would it be better to use an ABY swithch?

I've tried daisy-chaining a Rumble 40 and a Rumble 100. Works a treat. Se my original post about it here:

I didn't try the chaining the 40 or 100 but did try the 100 and 500, I posted it over here: Fender Rumble Club

@JakobT your rig looks fantastic! I was thinking of trying something like this as I have the chance to play with some full bands soon and my 40 is not gonna cut it I'm afraid. I was thinking of trading it in and upgrading to the 100. But I'm worried I will be in the same boat and need more later on. I would love to keep mine and get the 100 to have a setup like yours! Or possibly just go for the 200. But gotta keep the wife happy, well, at least less upset haha. So I will probably be getting rid of mine.

I do have a couple questions though. With the 100 running and it's pre out feeding the 40, wouldn't this be the equivalent of a 140w with a 10 and a 12?

And with the 200 being only 140w with the single 15, how close volume wise would it be to the 100w pushing a 12? Essentially is the 200 without an ext cab a lot louder than the 100?

If the 100 had a speaker out I'd be sold, but like I said I don't want to be wanting more after getting it and have to figure something else out later on. But if I did pull the trigger and get the 200 I wouldn't be getting an ext cab anytime soon and was wondering if the 140w would be worth the extra over the 100?

Sorry for the lengthy post. But any comments or experience with these smaller rumbles and gigging are helpful!

JacobT and ericB, thank you for the replies!
JacobT's setup looks really nice and they do stack beautyfully.

I assume the setup works equally well other way around, feeding the signal to R40 and from line out to R100 FX return? And if you are able to take the line level signal from R100 FX send and from there to R40 input, woudn't it also be possible to take it from line out of R40 and feed other R40 input?

Any opinions about mixing the speaker sizes? ;)
Just asking because I'd prefer two R40s over R40 and R100.

Then you would have the choice of connecting the line-out or the phones output of one R40 to the aux-in of another one.
I'm no tech but an issue might be that the line-out is balanced and the aux-in probably expects a stereo signal.
So theoretically speaking IMO the phones output would work because you can also connect, say, a smartphone phones output to the aux-in of an R40.
The volume, EQ, voice filters, etc of the 1st R40 would control the 2nd R40 as well, bypassing the latters controls.
Not sure if you would run into volume differences but neither if that would matter.

Best way to find out: try it if you can :)

Edit: the phones connector would not work because it bypasses the amp of the 1st R40 so it wouldn't produce any sound through the speaker.

I have both the 100 and the 200. The 200 would be my choice because it just speaks with more authority than the 100 in a live situation. I like the 15. I like the tweeter even though I don't really hear it; it just blends in real nice. You can add the cab someday and get the full 200 watts if you were to need it. So far, I haven't needed it.

The 100 is also a great amp and does a fantastic job on its own.

Thanks man! Good to know that I will more than likely be satisfied with either option. Now if I could just make a decision haha.

Edit to add:
I also wanted to ask, if (big if) I keep my 40 and get a 100 for a setup a la JakobT, live I would be able to use the 100's xlr out and adjust the 40's volume without affecting the line out volume, correct? If so, this would be nice as far as stage monitoring it seems.

I've never gigged with the 40/100 setup, but it should be just as powerful as the 200 combo without an extension cab. It was quite loud, and the speakers seemed well matched. I'm thinking it would work well for a medium-sized gig.

Here in America that would be a $500 rig for the 40+100 vs $450 for the 200 combo. Fender just raised the price of the 200 from $400 to $450.

That price would be too much if you had to buy both amps new, but if you already owned one of them, it would be cheaper than a 200, of course. The prices haven't gone up over here yet, but I'm sure they will. We're already suffering from an unfavorable exchange rate against the dollar, so I'm very happy i bought mine last year :)

So do you have an idea of how much louder the 40 will be with the 100? I'm just trying to understand all this so I can figure out what I should do. After thinking about it, it seems like the 100 would drown out the 40, since they are being powered by different power amps. Even though they are two separate speakers. Which I guess would push more air and cause greater volume? But I'm ignorant about slaving and daisy chaining and all that. Any info on the subject would help. I tried googling it but couldn't find the watts math part explained.

And there you have it. Each amp puts out XdB and moves X amount of air. The Rumble 200 by itself will give you more headroom and greater SPL. Not by a lot, but still comfortably more.
I agree. The 200 by itself is better in terms of headroom and SPL, unless you own either the 40 or the 100 already. Also, you get the option of an extension cab, giving you the full 200 watts.

Somewhere earlier in the thread it was said that the headphone output is at a very low level; in the context of powering a seperate speaker box. Not sure if that would be a factor when connecting another amp.

Seeing as how using the headphones jack cuts the signal to the internal power amp, I don't think this gets you to where you want to go: bi-amping.
Doing this backward -- driving the R40 AUX-IN from an EFFECTS SEND -- might work although it looks like that path might bypass the SPEAKER CAB SIM wizardry. A lot of what makes a Rumble a Rumble lies secreted away in that black-box SPEAKER CAB SIM.

:banghead: Of course! Stupid, I never use the phones output but I should have thought of that :dead:

But then you would also need at a R100 because the R40 doesn't have the effects send / return connections.

So that leaves just the line-out which I think won't work because, as far as my non-tech knowledge goes, the balanced signal (so original plus inverted) would be summed into the R40 amp and speaker, basically cancelling out.
