No, this is my setting for "subtle" and there's still quite a bit (too much) there.
Any of those other knobs see any gain and it's pretty woolly. Like tube amp on kill.
Basically, that is the most I can cut, and it's still too much.
If your old bass is the SBMM SUB in the photo, I think perhaps you're judging it a mite too harshly. Of course there's a big difference between that and the Bongo, that's only to be expected. But the SUB is a great bass for the money, and to me, the neck is one of the best things about it. It does have its flaws, notably a white-hot preamp and a volume control that's more like an on/off switch, but I still think it's a great bass. I've never played a Bongo, but I do own a couple of other EBMM basses, and they're of astounding quality, so I understand how it must feel like night and day.Okay--so I did it. I got a brand new EBMM Bongo 4 HH. I just went from mono to surround sound. VW Beetle to Ferrari.
I had no idea what areal EBMM played like. It is like my Selmer MKVI compared to a Bundy student sax. The old bass plays but can't do a lot of things--it ...well...kind of sux.
The Bongo is so freaking growly and untamed that I found absolutely no need to use the overdrive. It was a must at all times on the old bass. Right now I am using the overdrive as a volume boost. With all levels flat the Bongo is a tone monster through the 500C. I can't see adding another 115 extension right now....freaking awesome as is.
I am so glad I didn't upgrade my old base--I now understand that the neck and frets on that pig are hopeless for advanced playing.
...and what's up with that disgusting underwear ad I keep seeing on this site?????

When it comes to the underwear ad, I don't think I can help you, as I haven't seen it.But TB is obviously part of the Google Display Network, so what ads you're shown will depend upon, among other things, your age, sex and location, your interests, and what other sites you've visited.
The SUB is a good bass for the money. But it really doesn't compare. It got me through the early learning curve and a year ago I most certainly could not have told the difference. However, as I am progressing (I practice incessantly) I can see how I and why I could not get traction with slap, hammer-ons, quality harmonics, etc...
As far as the underwear ads....geeeeshhhh--I swear I don't visit those kind of sites!!!! I better check on my wife's computer usage. HMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm......LOLOLolololol
Also, the stock strings on the SUB are pretty bad. They had to make savings wherever they could, I guess. But with a good set of strings things improve no end.
BTW, it's perfectly possible for an advertiser to target 50+ males in Savannah, GA on the Google Display Network, so it may not be any sites you've visited at all. You can tell your wife that, should she ever ask.![]()

Good news bad news day
G&L having neck issues, so it's been returned
My other 2 basses are passive and get along better with the amp

Something's still not right, active basses shouldn't be an issue. Are you still using those settings with the passive basses?
Using a Fender P, yields just a little hair, nothing crazy unless you dig in
Much more subtle View attachment 990949
Pick up a Fender Elite Dimension.G&L having neck issues, so it's been returned
No it's not.The SUB is a good bass for the money.
I beg to differ. The preamp does run a little hot, but that's not a huge problem. Other than that it sounds and plays great. Build quality is very good, but the OEM strings are junk. But as soon as you swap them out, the bass sings. No it's not.
Probably gonna stand tight on a passive P and J for nowPick up a Fender Elite Dimension.
I not sure if it was a SUB or not, but I've played on the lower end models they have at GC. It did play well, neck had a good feel, electronics and HW are easy to swap out, etc. However they were all way to heavy, not sure what that's about but everyone i tried felt like it was 12lbs+.I beg to differ.
