Do this: take your instrument cable and run your plug in & out of the FX send and return jacks many times to clean out any oxidation or anything else that may be built up on the contacts. Do the same with your headphones and aux in jacks. If you've got any DeOxIT5 even better. Spray a bit on the male plug and run it and out of the jacks to clean them. That's a kind of maintenance you should do annually anyway.

Cheers ;)

Yes, I have to clean everything (mixer, amp, interface etc.) every few months due to the amount of dust here.

Maybe it just lodged some dirt in the wrong place.

I'll give it a spring clean over the weekend.

After reading all the replies in this thread to my inquiry about the 25 vs the 40, I decided to go with the 25, and I'm happy with my decision. It sounds great, and honestly it is still vastly overpowered for what I'm going to be using it for. I have a full sized rig for any other situation, but for home practice, I'll be keeping the volume at 25% max. Also, the tone when set flat is great and the lack of a high mid control is not a problem at all, as I worried it might be. All in all a great practice amp. I heard some bad things about the 15 but for my needs I'm kind of regretting not trying it, because a slightly smaller size would have been nice, and as I said before, loudness is not a concern for me at all.
I find myself in this same boat as of yesterday...
I had my heart set on the 25...for home use (easier to manage than my Bx500 and 112's) and perhaps transportability. I am totally funding the purchase with saved-up pocket change and scrap metal recycling.
Turns out that I managed to save a bit more than I expected, and I'm wondering if I should splurge on the 40.
It is only about 1" on every side larger than the 25, and I like how it has separate Gain and Drive levels aside from the Master volume. The extra EQ and switches are a bonus. I will A/B the two on Monday...

KUDOS to you @eastcoasteddie! (any relation to Ocean Eddie at Virginia Beach?) The Fender Rumble 40 is most definitely the way to go. Plus it is actually 3 pounds lighter than the Rumble 25 at 18 vs 21. Is it really worth $99 more? I think so, yes. You'll decide for yourself. Always ask for a better deal!

Help me understand this. I plugged an inatrument cable from SEND in my 100 v3 combo into RETURN on my Markbass 121H combo. All the knobs on both work. I kept the master lower on the Fender so as not too run much volume through its speaker, and used the Markbass for the most volume since it's 300w at 8 ohms. So, what I got was a Markbass rig with Fender DRIVE and a bit of Fender EQ and compression inasmuch as I turned the Fender up. I asuume the Fender speaker is still getting only as much volume as it normally would (so it's safe). The controls on each are discreet from each other, right? So if I turn the Markbass up it doesn't also turn the Fender up, too, correct?

Plugged my bass into the Fender. Or does it matter which?

So, am I doing this right? And is my thinking right? It sounded marvellously thunderous.

Don't spray too much of that stuff though.
Yeah , it can really burn up you nostrils. Wait.... too much of which spray?

Yes, that is correct. Effects Send ->to->Effects Return

:wideyed: This is confusing. All controls on your Rumble 100 (the Master) should work. I'm no expert on MarkBass, but the Effects Return should come after the pre-amp, so only the Master volume should work if anything.

Yes it matters. You plug your bass into the Master amp/combo. Then Effects Send from the Master into the Effects Return of the Slave. In this case Master Rumble into Slave MarkBass. Always plug your bass into the master and never the slave.

So, am I doing this right? And is my thinking right? It sounded marvelously thunderous.
Yep. You're doing fine. Just take your time and learn as you go.

I've been running my Rumble 500 head off of a Tonehammer preamp/di. Bass into TH input, output into effects return, all the controls on 500 head are disabled and it runs soley off the TH. Two Questions, 1) how can the TH control preamp gain and power amp master? 2) is this safe, any risk of distorting something or damaging the power amp?
It's. Certainly a great way to get an Aggie tone on a budget, sounds dang near identical. Now f I get a Mesa and Ampeg premap pedals,I'll have a small army of amps tones at my disposal:)

Ok, thanks.

Can't remember how many knobs I turned on the Markbass. The master did work. But seems I tried others, too. I'll do it again later and see (at my grandson's ballgame now).

But, the Fender is running at its normal volume, right?

Also, what happens if you plug your bass into the slave? Defeats the purpose? Hurt anything?

Correct.

Your Rumbles Effects Loop is Post everything!
2) is this safe, any risk of distorting something or damaging the power amp?
It is as safe as you make it. Yes, as I understand the matter, you risk damage if you go overboard just like any other amp.
Don't forget one of these
