Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

Thanks G-Dog, I dropped it off with the Fender repair man this morning to have that encoder replaced. I will update the group on how that goes in due course.

I managed to get the encoder to scroll by holding the button down and then moving it in a circle. its tricky because you have to press it at the exact same time as the menu button or it acts as a selector to go to the first menu item from the menu index (Home) screen but it was a temporary workaround.

Your comment yesterday about the app functioning as an alternative got me home trying that theory out last night.

I think it does do everything (and some things better) except updating the firmware. I don't think that is possible from the app?

Cheers

Shane

Good to hear, Shane! Glad you got to the right resource.

Is it still under warranty, or will you have to pay for the repair? Just curious.

Ok, now! Here's a new one on me, my bass modeling bros & sistas. I opened the Fender Tone App on my android tablet today, just to look at some stuff, without turning on my Studio 40. But the App closed itself and popped up a message to get the latest update. Hmmm ... ...

A. That's never happened to me before! Has it happened to you? I'm sure I've previously used a slightly out of date Tone App before, without any problem. But, Ok. I get it. This update is more proactive than the previous ones, at least for me. Anyone else?

2. So, I got the new android Fender TONE App, Version 3.2.7, build 12797, (whew! seems like a lot of builds) and ... ... it installed alright, I think. But, I don't recognize any of these new-to-me 189 preset names, (I only had about 105 presets on my tablet before) nor many of their amp "pictures", other than the Fender Twins, Supers, BandMasters, Deluxes, Blues Jr.s, Princetons, Champs, etc.!! Hey, where's my #9 Deep Rumble?!? Yep, this version installed the guitar presets for the Fender Mustang GT and/or GTX amps!!! What's that aboot? I trust that when I connect it to my Rumble Studio 40 amp it'll revert to the Rumble presets? Anyone ever had this happen?

iii. My iPhone usually auto-updates the iOS Fender TONE App, but I checked it today before it might have had a chance. The old version ran Ok, even though not connected to my amp. And my manual update got Version 3.2.6, build 7, (must be easier to debug?) which installed with all the usual 100 stock Rumble presets. (I don't think I ever added any more on my phone.) So, no concerns there, as yet.

Has anyone seen this before? If so what was your experience? :wideyed:

G-Dog, checked my Tone App on my Android phone, and I have the same presets as you. All the previous Rumble presets are gone. Won't connect to my amps until I hear from someone else. Don't want to overwrite what I have.

I just checked the Tone App after the update. When I opened it, it showed the guitar presets. I turned my Studio 40 on and connected the app to it. The presets changed to the bass presets. I turned off the amp, closed and reopened the Tone App. The bass presets remained. So, it looks like the app defaults to guitar after an update, but returns to bass after reconnecting for the first time.

Thanks for verifying Maarty! I feel much better now. :)

Thanks, guys, for refuting my insanity (in this case, at least)! :wacky:

And, thank you, Maarti, for confirming the reverting back to bass presets. I'm curious, though, did you have any "homemade" presets in the 101-200 slots? Or any specially tweaked presets in the 01-100 slots? If so, did they return, in addition to the stock presets? :eyebrow:

Nope. No saved presets. I'll have to create one and save it, to check after the next update. But I suspect that wi won't go anywhere, since that would mean that the app wipes the custom presets when it updates. That would be a VERY bad design. I suspect that the app contains BOTH sets of default presets, but doesn't know which amp it is used with, so defaults to the overfed long haired leaping gnome guitar presets. :roflmao::bassist:

The more I think about it, the more sense the current operation of the app makes. If the first 100 factory presets weren't baked into the app, they'd need to be downloaded from the amp each time. Lousy idea. Also, the Mustang amp came first, so it makes sense that the app defaults to the Mustang presets. The Rumble support and presets were added after the Studio and Stage were released. The preset storage design (100 presets + 100 free slots for user presets) also makes some sense. A user could modify every single preset and save them to Preset# + 100, making them easy to find. In actual use, though, 20 free slots would likely be plenty. Musicians playing original music will have their "tone" and not need too many personal presets. Someone playing in a cover band would likely need/want more. But more than 20? Not likely. In any case, I'd start with slot 101, or more likely 200, and store backward from there. That would make using the GTX-7 foot switch and its bank switching much more straightforward.

Cool Rumblings, Maarti. Your musings seem quite reasonable to me. But there are always those "unreasonable" hypercreative people who need more room than others, you know. For some of them the 100 empty slots may not be enough! :woot:

I was kinda hoping we might get to use some Mustang presets, without losing the bass presets, of course. But with 189 Mustang presets, I wouldn't have enough room for my 105 bass presets. I was looking forward to trying some Mustang presets after reading @Dookieshoes' post of how to load them, but I waited too long and missed out. :(

Question for those playing out:

Do you use a clip-on tuner or do you use the built-in tuner exclusively at gigs?

I guess it's just force of habit, but I routinely use my TC Polytune Clip on all my basses and guitars.

Hmmm, ... ... is that something else that the Tone App can't do with the Stage & Studio?

Hi everyone - I have a Rumble 800 Stage. The encoder press button works but the rotary scroll does not. Has anyone had an issue with this? does anyone know the part number? any help or suggestions appreciated.

I have spoken to a tech, and he is going to take a look at it for me but said parts are almost impossible to get. I'm in Australia.

... ... ...
Lownotes, ... ... your Stage will require the expertise of an Authorized Fender Service Center for that problem, or a warranty replacement. Fender doesn't make its parts available to anyone else, so contact Fender Customer Service via your local website, right away. If you bought it used, with no warranty, and the Authorized Center repair estimate is too high for you, there's always the Invalid Link Removed for operating your Stage! ... ... ...

@Lownotes75, I was just wondering how your encoder button work came out?

Thank you, @Davyo. Your initiation of the Fender Rumble 800 Combo Thread for the NEW 2022 800 COMBO has proven to be a valuable resource to Rumbling Knowledge such that it now has more prominent listing on the Rumble Club Wiki page at the end of the Rumble Club Threads section in addition to the end of the Rumble 800 COMBO section. This is a very helpful thread that needs to be more easily found!

Thank you, Davy, for cultivating this very helpful thread resource.
