So I've had a rumble 500 for a few years and wanted a practice amp for my living room…

santa brought me a studio 40. It's been busy here so I only played with it for about an hour yesterday. I used Wi-Fi to update the firmware, then turned off Wi-Fi and set up Bluetooth with the tone app on my iPhone. I played some tunes along with backing tracks. Experimented with pre sets. No issues

just now I sat down to play some more and had a tone of issues. Wi-Fi is still off. First of all… a bunch of times the amp just cut out for no reason at all. It would randomly come back after a few seconds or minutes. After the 2nd time I rebooted everything. The last time it cut out it took a few minutes to come back and during that time, the amp controls were completely frozen/crashed. When the sound came back the controls came back alive.
And then one time when playing along to apple music the song I was playing back via Bluetooth kept speeding up really fast and slowing down. Like a demon possessed it. Another time when playing along with YouTube, the whole thing got out of sync and the timing was also super messed up.

needless to say I'm feeling defeated. I guess I'll call fender in the morning. My husband bought it direct from fender during the Black Friday sale.
Thoughts?

Yes, Arny, anyone can start very simply just using the 100 stock presets "as is". Then, as interest grows, they can delve into copying a favorite preset to the 101 - 200 range and tweaking it experimentally. Then, even later, they can dig as deep as they want to go into all the available myriad possible settings in any given preset!

Ah, and the Fender Tone App on your phone and/or tablet can make selecting, copying and tweaking settings SO convenient that you can spend hours doing it before you know it! ​

A. The Studio and Stage have the same pre-amp and all the same models and presets available. Their main, if not only, difference is their power amps.

2. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the Boss Slicer SL-2, but you can check out the list of stock pedal models as explained at the bottom of the DECODER PDF files that Rumbler @Droopy_TX saved for us in this handy Google Docs link. There are also many other helpful files there for learning more about all the stock presets.

When streaming audio into the AUX input, remember to turn the compression tweeter on. When you're playing your bass into the amp, you would normally turn it off.

I've found it's nice to have a "Y" cable with an 1/8" stereo plug on one end, and a pair of 1/4" plugs on the Y end. It can be used two different ways.

1) Most ASIO drivers for audio interfaces are not multi-client capable. If you are using your interface to record your bass into a DAW using ASIO, you can't play a YouTube or MP3 backing track into your monitors, you'd be stuck with the internal speakers on your desktop/laptop. However, the audio sent to the headphone jack on the PC is very high quality. You can use the Y cable to connect the headphone out (1/8") to a pair of inputs on your audio interface for playing into your good monitors and for recording along with your bass track.

2) Or, you can use the cable the other way around by plugging the 1/4" mono plugs into a pair of audio outputs on your audio interface and the 1/8" stereo plug into the AUX input of the Rumble amp.

Another option to consider if you're just playing at home at the moment, is to buy a Studio 40 now and then buy a 200, 500 or 800 combo (not the Stage version) when you start gigging. You can then plug your bass into the Studio 40 for using its presets and then chain it to the new combo (FX Send on the 40 to FX Return on the combo). That would let you pick an appropriate sized gigging combo. I had a 200 in the U.S. and loved it, but had to sell it when I moved to France. Now, I have only a Studio 40 for home playing. On the off chance that I ever play out again, I'll buy a larger Rumble combo and chain my existing 40 to it.

You'll spend less money now, and have more flexibility in the future, should you start gigging.

1/ I 'm definitely going to order this Y cable, your solution seems nice , you right I was so much deceived that in 2022 , I figured I couldn't get a multi-client capable ASIO drivers.( btw My interface is BEHRINGER U-PHORIA UM2 )
2/ yeah The solution that you propose is convincing but I want to please myself and the fact that the rumble stage 800 remains rather light and not too cumbersome have finally convinced me to take directly the solution that will suit me for a long time

- Update to the most recent firmware version 3.0.41 (Nov 15th, 2021);
- Unpair all the bluetooth devices. You can still connect the Fender Tone App;
- Only one bluetooth device connected at once.

Not to belabor the point but, you can't use the Tone App and stream audio by Bluetooth both at the same time. Only connect one Bluetooth device and use just one function.

If the problem continues then, yes, it's time to call 7ender Customer Service.

So I used the tone app to choose scoopy snacks. And I was happily playing along for 15 minutes to my favorite chili
Peppers tracks. Then randomly the bass sound cut out for a few seconds at a time and came back in. This happened a few times randomly. … then I got a phone cal and after that the streamed audio would not play at all until I rebooted the amp.

When I turn on the amp my phone automatically connects via Bluetooth. It seems a little wacky to have to switch off the Bluetooth Audio before deciding to switch tones on the Tone amp?

So...Over the holidays I've gigged with my Stage 800 twice and used it as a Bluetooth party speaker on two occasions! This thing is the best $650 I've spent in a long time.

is it just me or do you find that there isn't very good low end when you use the amp that way with streaming audio? My husband, in particular, was disappointed with the sound when used as a Bluetooth speaker. Obviously, the thing sounds fantastic with the bass

yes, that definitely would be a solution. Thank you. I did do some reading today on our wiki page about the amp and I also spent some time finding all of the ways to make the amp crash, including trying to record audio while also streaming Bluetooth music. Ha ha ha. I also think that I figured out how to make it not crash! in addition, I was able to nicely record some tracks with garage band. That was pretty easy and straightforward. I think that I really need to make my own Bluetooth amp and software that works exactly the way I envision it in my own head. ha ha ha. if only, right?

Has anyone figured out how to record directly into GarageBand in the iPhone? The apple video interface that works with my fender mustang micro does not seem to work with this rumble 40. I get an error message about they are not being enough power or something like that.

I was referring to your suggestion to use a 1/8" wire to play music through the amp so that I could still switch tones with the app while practicing! While that's a good solution, it doesn't satisfy my dream of sitting across the room with my bass and my iPhone, connected to the amp with nothing but the 1/4" guitar cable gleefully changing tones and tunes on the fly. The heart wants what the heart wants!!!

I'm sorry, but it reads like you haven't actually tried this "good solution" to report, for sure, if it really and truly is a solution in your case, relieving the stated problem, however clumsy, inconvenient, begrudging and unwanted. OR do you really and truly have a malfunctioning unit, even when following the manufacturer's published instructions? ​

I agree with that. I wish that technology were better, too. I have two BT speakers that, sometimes but not always, play in stereo (as advertised) when paired and playing together. Then my phone gets a text or email and one, or both, speaker(s) cut(s) out, or turns completely off. Perhaps, one day ... ... You may sa-aa-aa-ay I'm a dreamer, ... but I'm not the only one ... ...​

I found it adequate in the bass department with the Bluetooth streaming. You'd need some additional eq to achieve really low bass I think since the baked in sound seems to be kind of flat. The one thing I didn't think about was trying the Global EQ to see if that affects the Bluetooth as well.
