FIFA World Cup 2014

Oi you lot stop dissing the noble haggis!
Took me several hours to catch one for my breakfast this morning - fast wee b#ggers!
me talk engish wun day. I have no idea what you just wrote, Martin.
Sorry, forgot we were international, translation:

Excuse me chaps but one would be most grateful if you fine gentlemen would refrain from pouring scorn upon the most splendid species known as the Haggis, particularly when referring to it in the same context as a certain Antipodean product consisting of engine oil and swamp mud marketed as Marmite.
After all, it is only fair, given that the aforementioned Haggis is extremely fleet of foot, indeed, I recall that the endeavour of hunting down and procuring one for my breakfast repast this very morn took me somewhat longer than I had anticipated, running to several hours, as a result of the rapid velocity of the species and it's skill in evading capture, the little scamps that they are!

Now you know of why we speak Jockanese north of the border :D

Ahh world cup. My heart will be with Italy. The cup will be raised by Germany or Brazil. I'd prefer Germany. I hope Uruguay don't even win a throw in.

I hope you don't take this personally, but I never understood the mentality of cheering for the land of your formers. Here in Texas we have plenty of Americans of hispanic heritage that might be 3rd or 4th generation American, yet still cheer for Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, etc even if they have zero ties to the nation of their ancestors, and might not even speak a word of Spanish. There are probably more Mexico supporters in Houston than there are USA supporters.

My grandfather was very proud of being both German and American, but the USA is the only country I would ever want to cheer for.

That is what I am trying to teach to my son , I am from Mexico and of course my heart it is with my country, when my son told me that his team was Spain I was like ***, I explained him that he must be with his country no matter what , same one day that I was taking him to soccer practice and he was wearing a Barcelona's jersey, I explained him that not matter what he should be faithful to his club, meaning that he should wear his club jersey even for practice, he got it.

Surprised Jermaine Defoe has been excluded from the England roster - he has had a great season in Toronto so far. I wonder if it's a prestige thing, if Hodgson sees MLS as too inferior of a league.

Without a doubt.

I'm still surprised that Defoe left England, never mind that Spurs let him go in the first place.

There aren't many England players that get selected for the national side if they play abroad, unless they play in Spain, Italy, Germany or France.

I never knew Owen Hargreaves existed until Sven picked him when he was playing for Bayern.

Ask DS about Owen Hargreaves ;)

He scored when Scotland played Brazil in the next game. They then drew with the Russians and exited the tournament on GD, IIRC.

no it was someone else
I'll go steal the boys World Cup book

Uruguay v Spain in quarters
Ivory Coast and Nigeria both qualify IC 1st, Nigeria 2nd

I was going to punt Chile to dump the Dutch but waiting on Arturo Vidal situation.
Argentina have a better draw than Brazil, leaning towards punting 3 of semi-finalists are Sth American

bottom of group
Mexico, Australia, Greece, Costa Rica, USA, Honduras, Iran, Algeria,

No offense taken at all. Everyone can root where they like. After all, we don't mind you rooting for that diving contemptible rabbit and his cohorts in evil. :)
