FIFA World Cup 2014

I'll root for the US but since it is a longshot at best, I have no problem with my fellow Americans picking another team of the traditional footy powers based on national heritage or anything else. Football wasn't even invented when my ancestors left Europe, so I tend to favor North and South American teams.

I'll go with Brazil over Germany for the Cup.

Player - Suarez, who else?

Surprise Team - This will be the year for an African team - I'll go with Nigeria, if only because Ghana is in a tough group and I'd rather the US make it out of it.

The Golden Boy, Landon "Captain America" Donovan was left off the US team today. Yes!

I could never stand that guy. Now I can root for US and A with a whole heart.

He was cut in favor of Brad Davis, the captain of my beloved Houston Dynamo. Class guy all around, I'm very happy to see him suit up in Brazil. This is his first World Cup at the tender age of 32, so he better make it count.

(Boniek Garcia, our other "star" player, will be suiting up for Honduras)

Jurgen had stated that Landon was only in the running as a forward, never as a MF. I would say he was passed over in favor of Wondo.

Weird, I always thought Landon played his best as a midfielder, and not as a forward. Makes sense for Juergen to skip on him then, he just doesn't have the same speed he used to.

Lots of love for Wondo too, he played in Houston for a few years.

I'll be rooting for Germany. I love the way they play the game. I also love the way the US plays, but they won't be winning this year.

I'll be rooting for all the American teams; US, Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, etc... Failing that I'd like to see the Africans do well. The last teams I'll root for are the Europeans. (Unless it's the Swedish Girls Team.)

The last time I saw Landon play was against Mexico and he was awful. Supposedly he's been injured lately so it shouldn't be a surprise he was cut.

Beyond the USA, I will bring secondary support to the fellow CONCACAF nations. Costa Rica had a great qualifying run to make it to the WC and were playing great football, I would love to see them get past their group - but I just don't see it happening, being in the same group as Italy, England, and Suarezaguay.

Always liked Landon as a wide mid. Rubbish descison to not include him though I do get the pace issues. I'd have had him well ahead of Jozy Altidore, who I like, but has been utterly trash all season, or Dempsey, who I despise, and has been utterly trash all season, and the season before that.... I don't think he's any quicker than Landon either.

Delighted Wondo is in, surprised he never got looked at even by a mid table team in a bigger league, hugely underrated. The great warrior lion hero leader himself JT said defending against Wondo was a nightmare.

Fixed.

Now the English domestic season has closed, this competition and this thread will likely be a focus of discussion for football fans here in TBOT, so I'm just bumping it so it can be easily found and hoping this will make it less likely that someone starts a duplicate.
