The man's name is Thomas Syverson, a Norwegian living in Trondheim, the country's third largest city. Syverson saw that Betsson, an online gambling site based in Malta, was offering 175-1 odds that Suarez, who had bitten other players before, would bite someone during the World Cup and, on a hunch, placed the equivalent of a $5.25 bet (3.85 euros) on the first day of action in Brazil.
"I had 32 [Norwegian] Krone on it, so it was just for fun," Syverson told ESPN.com.
When Suarez took the apparent bite in the 79th minute, Syverson said he was awoken by a friend who texted him what had just happened.
Sure enough, Syverson checked and the equivalent of $916 (673 euros) was deposited into his account for winning the bet.
Andreas Bardun, sportsbook manager for gambling site Betsson, where Syverson placed his bet, said 167 gamblers placed bets on the prop.
The biggest winner was a Norwegian who won $3,300, he said, but he cited company policy not to disclose any of the names of its bettors.

Heck, if I had known you could put money on that, I'd have taken it, great odds!

Also, double U tee eff? TB has banned the words "online g ambling" apparently (though apparently pretty poorly!), it was blocking my reply because the post I was replying to had those words together.

I understand the predictable (and justified) whaling on Suarez but surprised no comment on Samaras.

Both acts got their respective sides through.

One positive is FIFA actually has a chance now to come down heavy on cheating/violence. The fact it is one of the very best players in the world makes it more important that an iron fist suspension is delivered.

It also seriously impacts a number of other players futures. I wonder how Chile's Sanchez feels about this? It seemed likely he would have been part trade for Suarez going to Barca.

Liverpool also have an option around how they choose to deal with Suarez. Sadly I do not think the moral high road will be taken.

1. Yes Chiellini is bitten. No it is not accidental

2. Yes Chiellini has his own record of thuggery however this is irrelevant to Suarez's actions here.

3. FIFA's response will have little to do with Brazil and a lot to do with how they deal with 2 of the World's biggest clubs and what benchmark they hold the worlds very best players to.

4. Again there is no agenda to marginalize Uruguay. The inevitable Suarez suspension is entirely of his own doing.

5. Yes I tire of the double standards but Suarez has no margin for error. If he cops a 12 month ban he deserves it, if it is 24 months from International football he still can't complain.

FWIW I love to watch Suarez play, he has one of the quickest brains in any attacking player of the last 20 years, his skill set and opportunism is an excellent coaching tool for younger players and he has that creative spark which means anything can happen. Sadly anything really does mean anything with him.

Watched it happen live. What a f***ing piece of s***. And then to dive afterward, as if Chiellini had hurt HIM?!?! At the very least Suarez should be booted for the remainder of the tournament, if not longer. But I have ZERO faith in FIFA doing the right thing.

Luis Suarez's actions don't reflect poorly on Uruguay and its people. They only reflect poorly on Luis Suarez. However, if the Uruguayan people try to make light of it and dismiss it, that DOES reflect poorly on them.
