They'll probably have to. I don't think he'll be playing any more games in this World Cup.

There's an interesting article on the BBC website about a sports psychologist who predicted last year (after the Ivanovic incident) that Suarez would be unable to stop himself from biting another opponent at some point in the future.

Roger, we all know that indiscipline happens in every football match. But the reasons we Brits pay so much attention to Suarez are very simple - he's one of the best players in the world, he plays in our Premier League and he's got a truly shameful record of cheating and violent conduct. It's not about anyone "loving to hate him", it's just that he's a big star over here and everything he does (good and bad) gets lots of attention and headlines. It's totally unrealistic to expect stuff by every other player all over the world to get the same amount of attention here that Suarez does. Please stop implying Suarez or Uruguay are the victims in this situation. If Suarez is a victim at all, he's the victim of his own psyche.

I´m not saying he is the victim. If he is guilty (you all hanged him on a rope already) he will be banned, that´s how things goes. He probably has a mental illness of some class. All the attention and headlines are the things that get me nauseous.
I´m not implying anything, I got on a facts search, like you said and I found a zillion articles on Suarez and two or three on how a little 3 million country can form a national team and win against England AND Italy.

Eder Alvarez Balanta doesn't have an excessive history of violent play and cheating beyond compare, in that particular case, he should have been sent off.

Balotelli gets, and more regularly and rightly when a Premiership player, tore to shreds in the media. In this case it kind of flew under the radar, I'm not sure if you watched the game, but something more newsworthy did happen in the game.

But it´s ok, rivers of ink are flowing about Suarez. You really truly love to hate him. He will be banned, you all can be happy. We will shrug and take the match against Colombia in the usual Uruguayan way (suffering and playing each ball like it´s the last). But the press won´t be writing about that, they will still be writing about Suarez and how mean he is, forgetting all about the other ten players that gave all they could.

I'll be less diplomatic.

I don't "love to hate" him, I just hate him full stop.

I think he is a reprehensible, horrible, nasty, detestable scumbag. He is a shameless, cheating racist thug, and he needs properly filling in.

And I hope that someone soon gives him something to really roll around and cry about.

What sickens me, Roger, is that despite all of the above, he is still not only idolised and worshipped, but paid stupid amounts of money for doing so.

Fighting. Soccer needs fighting. Let these fancy boys police themselves. Suarez' teeth would be gone by now.

Why can´t the press write about other Uruguayan players and how great they have been playing? Why can´t the press write something about the great World Cup Costa Rica is having? Obviously, they don´t sell papers, so that won´t happen.

I really do feel badly for Uruguay's fans and other players. It really isn't fair for the whole team and/or country to be tarred by one man's actions. But it doesn't help when supporters and members of the team either complain about the attention or try to defend the guy. The way for Uruguay to get on the right side of this is for the manager and other team officials to make clear that they are as disgusted by this behavior as anyone else, that they will not condone or tolerate such behavior from a member of their team, and that they will accept whatever penalty FIFA decides to hand down without objection.

Back in the day, it wouldn't have stood, the likes of Roy Keane, Bryan Robson or Big Dunc(as Titus could tell you about in far greater detail than I), would have destroyed the likes of Suarez if he tried to freaking bite them, or a team mate. I guess in way one of their roles on a football pitch was similar to an ice hockey teams "enforcer".

But I will also agree with one thing Roger has said - I think Suarez has a fairly serious mental health problem.

He is guilty, pretty obvious evidence. The problem is, FIFA is as corrupt as they come. They don't care about the game or it's integrity, they want to stoke outrage.

That would probably be to do with population size having pretty much bugger all to do with forming a national team. If it did, the US would be dominating the world cup.

To go with another Rugby comparison, New Zealand has a population of just over 4 million, yet dominate the international field. I don't mean win, I mean dominate. They won 14 of 14 games last year, they are currently on a winning streak of 17 games. Then you also have countries like Tonga, Samoa and Fiji, countries with sub-1 million populations (100 to 900 thousand), who produce excellent talent and perform well on the international stage.

Anyway, onwards and upwards, we have a potentially interesting situation kicking off shortly in Group F. If Iran were to win 1-0 and Nigeria lose to the Argies 1-0, then Iran and Nigeria would be exactly equal in terms of points, GD and goals scored. And they drew their group game against each other, which means progression to the round of 16 would be decided by drawing lots, I think? First time ever? Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

They should have a one off penalty series or take the captains and go all Thunderdome.
