So I asked him if he had pictures of the neck heel, neck pocket and pots. Here is his response... "Don't have a clue what that even means. As stated this was in the back of an estate locker and we know NOTHING about musical equipment other than the fact we know this is a rare piece and was verified with our local music store. The entire piece is original (accept for the modifications where he added the pick-ups)."

$2,900? ... Isn't a ridiculous asking price but, it doesn't look like there's been a rush to bid. ... It would be interesting to see, when it's pulled apart, how good it looks under that pickguard. ... I can't knock it because I did the same to my 66 P-bass back in the day.

Certainly isn't a collector, but it always amuses me when people say what a sin it is, and have never heard or played it. As others have said, at the time, it was just another bass.

I was so disgusted the first time that I didn't read the whole description. It not only sings (probably hums as well), but it's a gem. Cubic zirconia, anyone? A few astute posters here have mentioned the price of this bass as parts is reasonable. I'd be interested in the lollipop tuners, pickups and neck. If you got a new bridge, guard and fixed the routes on the bridge P, you may have a decent vintage Fender, with enough spare electronics to start a mutt.

That bass also makes All Grown Up Jesus and the rest of us cry. I am old enough to remember when guitars and basses of that era were not seen as Holy Relics of the Allmighty God Incarnate, but jeez that one does make me sad.

OTOH it may sound great and be an amazing player, just not a museum piece. Some basses are destined to be the Bass of Doom, the Tractor, Working Girl or Shark Bass.
