Now, if they had done that to a parts bass or even a recent reissue, I'd probably say it was pretty darned cool.

That's not clearcoat, it's the congealed tears of all who have viewed it.
Reminds me of Jack Casady's first gigging bass (heard on Jefferson Airplane's albums: Takes Off, Surrealistic Pillow, and After Bathing at Baxter's). Old jazz modified with a precision pickup in the neck position. My friend and I tried it with an SX jazz once and it was actually a very useful mod. On the other hand, the straddling bridge pickup thing though... can't see how it would be useful in that configuration.

who knows, it could sound incredible....but as one who likes to play funk, there's little room to slap and pop on without snagging a freakin' pickup.

Sad...however kind of cool for what it is now that someone put that work into turning a classic straight up beautiful Jazz into a JazzPrecisionBlackTopJaguarSpecialDeluxeVintageModifiedClassic Bass...
