Not really a fan of finishes "caramelized with a crime brûlée torch"

I like the pickup configuration, just not on an old instrument.

Hope it was done when it was newer.

Case looks newer to me.

Apparently some are greatly offended that anyone would modify their bass in the event the bass ever becomes old.

I guess the aftermarket parts industry should just shut down.

I don't think I have seen anybody "offended" here. Regardless of age, I think the thing is hideous.

I've found your next project...

Wow...that's alot of pick ups. For the right price it would make a nice restoration project. Between the Jaguar/Jazzmaster switches and the Precision pickups, you could pay for the restoration supplies. That work looks like it was done a long,long time ago and the Jazz parts are hopefully original and intact. A shame about the pick guard..but it is what it is. Alder is easier to match...I could make a sunburst out of that again!

So here's my plan: I'm gonna buy this thing on eBay and do some more work on it. Specifically, make it a string through and add a bridge where the neck plate would be, facing the bottom. That way I can add rows of pickups on the back. Excellent.

But at that price, assuming the original hardware is there, would it be worth having a pro fill the extra holes and do a solid color refinish? Lake Placid Blue!

The headstock looks like it might be original. If the pickups are original, it would proably be completely worth it to do just what you describe. I wouldn't do it but just from a "value" perspective, a refin-body '63 -even with filler blocks hidden under the finish- would probably be worth far more than 3k + the required work.

As for me, I'd just mosey over to Lakland and have them build me something better.
