First Cigarette....

Smoking is no worse for you than shoveling big-macs into your unsightly gut, or living in a city that's choked in atmospheric pollutants. Hell, people brag all the time about how much beer they can down in a night, and that crap ruins lives all the time.

No matter where you look, there are going to be people arguing aganist smoking because being a tobacco hater is 'in' right now. Don't be a idiot - weigh the boons and consequences of being a smoker yourself; if you rely on other people to help make the decision for you, you're robbing yourself of the only true freedom a person has; that of personal choice. You're a human. Exercise that damn intellect.

Choosing to stick one's head in a bucket of concrete and jump into a pool is also an exercise of the personal freedom of choice.
Doesn't mean it's a smart thing to do, though...

Nor is it smart to make an allusion between smoking and sticking one's head in a bucket of concrete and jumping into a pool. I don't intend to be rude - but I want everyone to realize that there is no parallel between them.

Many people find solice in their habbits. Nicotine comforts and acts as a stress relief. Idiotic stunts do not.

Smoking has definate psychological boons. Depending on who you are, these boons may very well outweigh the dangers that come with them.

What do they teach you in first grade?

Do not talk down to me like that. People do not have ultimate knowledge of right and wrong nor are we capable of diefic empathy. These things taken together mean that nither you, I, or anyone else responding to NINFAN are able to predict what will be a mistake for him. Indeed, smoking could be the emotional release he has been searching for and negitive peer pressure will only be a hinderance to his well-being.

We are getting off topic and I apologize.

Hey, this dude can do what he wants, even if it will give him cancer and AIDS and Hepatitis K or something...

By the way, Mr. NINFAN, smoking is expensive. Even in the lowest depths of hades, cigarettes are anywhere from 3 to 10 dollars a pack (Except in Canada, where they are like 30). Imagine how much money could save by not smoking? I quit smoking cigarettes on a regular basis a long time ago, which, coincidentally, what last septermber when I turned 21 and found out that I could by beer. and since a case of PBR is about 6 bucks, I figured I could buy 2 cases of PBR instead of 1 case, 2 40's of Hurricane, and pack of smokes. Or I could buy a 5th of Jim Beam for 15.00 and a 2 liter of coca cola and have Jim and Cokes all night long.

Either way, stop smoking tobacco. it's nasty and expensive/

I had a friend from grad school who was obsessed with the cigarette industry. He could cite quotes from internal tobbacco industry documents from the 1980s. He was pretty hardcore about smoking being a personal choice. Ironically, though, he thought smoking was a horrible habit.

So.,, ya, basically my life is kindof a pile, and im fairly nihilistic anyways, so I figured what the hell.

Strange thing tho. I like the smell, and the taste..... I've hung out with a LOT of smokers before and its never bothered me, so I guess I really shouldn't be surprised.

Any thoughts? Last will and testament? Funeral arrangements?

when you sit down and tally up what you actually get in a pack of cigarettes,a few cents worth of leaves paper and chemicals, and as whole lot of lobbying, legal costs etc.,does it really seem worth the price.....sure you get to lean on your amp and tell drunk girls that you are a "nihilist",but lots of other stuff you can tell them works just as well, and they may even care.....

maybe add up the financial costs for starters and think of what you can have for the price of smokes.....for me not smoking paid for my house, and every day that i don't smoke adds to my ability to buy something else that doesn't make me hork up a loogie every morning....here a pack is about ten bucks, and with our rate of taxation, that means i have to earn 20 bucks to buy a pack of cigarettes......

but hey,being a nihilist is worth your money,health,and stinky clothes,car,residence etc.....ain't it

Smoking is hard on your body, hard on your wallet, hard on your family, and a drain on society. If your willing to be that self-indulgant and continue smoking, that is your right. But as someone else pointed out, it is just as much others rights to tell you what they think of smoking.

BTW, I smoked for almost 20 years. Thank God and my family that I quit 5 years ago.

Thanks,

P@

You tell people not to make sweeping judgments of smoking, then follow it straight up with a sweeping statement about idiotic stunts?

Im sure there are plenty of people out there who would beg to differ that walking a tightrope with a grizzly bear on their back, over a pool of sharks and a volcano makes them feel more alive, and they find solice and comfort in the act of spitting in the eye of death. I can't say im one of them, but they are out there.

More than likely, someone starting to smoke today is doing it because its "Cool".
