Flats Help Please

Actually SHE said " thump and punch" ;)
Thank you
Being that im up in canada for awhile with my brother, and its so time consuming to order from the states and more expensive. A small local shop has fender and ghs.
I loved the sound of the video of the ghs but what you said makes me want to get the fender as well. I have 3 basses so i will put them on two of them and keep the one with rounds just in case.
I used to have so much equipment but marriage and kids happened and i havent played for quite some time and sold if off to help get the house.
I have to say the adventure of getting new gear and getting my brother to get back in it as well has made this fun.
Thank you tbers

Oops, sorry! I didn't notice the username. Also, like other people mentioned, you might want to try Chromes. They fall under the brighter/punchier category.

RIP the green silk 9050's. Wish they never dissappeared. Nothing, absolutely nothing, has the authoritative thump of the old Fenders.
I once did an AB recording of old Fenders vs. Chromes, and aside from a slight little bit of low end warmth added from the Fenders, they could have been the same strings.

The old Fenders have a huge "push", or to say it another way, a powerful, relatively quick, and very high peak of fat lows and low mids that are not matched by daddarios, labellas, or any other flats. Granted, this is my experience from playing them live, not recorded. Possibly something is lost, perhaps from compression, when comparing recorded results of chromes vs fenders. The old Fenders are the only flats I know of that kick like a mule this hard.

I've tried Chromes and Rotosound 77's. I like the Chromes alright. Good strings, imo. The Rotosound 77's are interesting. Way too bright for my preference, but they do have a lot of character. I find them very interesting, but I won't be keeping them. I like more low. My La Bella's are in the mail! Can't wait to give 'em a whirl! :bassist:

I agree. Feel has a lot to do with it; they've got that snap.
