I'd say your gildaxes qualify too - just much much bigger "flakes"!

Time to come out of the closet. I was the finish guy at Santa Cruz Guitar back in the first half of the 1990s. I still build and paint for fun. Here's a MusicYo Steinberger I did in a large metal-flake Candy Apple Red color. The second shot is the neck of that same instrument done in black with a multicolor flake, looks like black opal when it's in focus. Shame the instrument sounded like garbage.

Does Hammertone count? Not a traditional metalflake, but it has flakes of mica in it. I just did this pickguard in hammered spray paint last week. I liked it so much that today I'm picking up a $25 craigslist bass to experiment with a body/headstock and pickguard with two contrasting colors of Krylon hammered spray paint.

I'm working on finishing up a purple metal flake refinish on a Jaguar: Refinishing Jaguar

Unlike some of the photos in this thread, the flake isn't really apparent in my photos. For one, I used Roth Baby Flake (tiny), and it's buried in a deep kandy purple. And then there's the fact I used an iPod camera with crappy lighting.

But I really want to paint more guitars/basses with metal flake! Since this is my personal bass I wanted it to be fairly understated for being kandy purple metal flake, but I want to try some more far out ideas with large flake and multi-color kandy jobs and masking patterns.

Oh, and @Hopkins - those photos of yours are pretty great! They capture the flake as well as can be hoped for!
