....heard that AND that he had become personal friends with and gigged with Richard Bona ...yes 2 basses...(way back then!) Yes the real deal for sure...thus my original inquiry. I just thought we'd be seeing him in magazines and on the net and just perhaps much more visible in the bass community by now. But hey, to each his own, I am not going to judge a guys career choices!

They overnighted the bass so it would arrive here this morning (Tuesday). For whatever reason, it never left Memphis. I went to the local distribution center, and they said it was lost- nobody in Memphis could find it. They called me later and told me they'd found it, but that they had no idea why it had not left. They were going to get it on am alternative flight to get it here by tonight. They called me at about 5:30 to inform me that it was lost again and nobody could account for its arrival. They will update me in the morning.

Sigh.

All the best to you and your bass, Angus. I'm thinking about you and I'm with you. I know what you're going through, but in your case it's even worse. The fact, that nobody knows where this long awaited bass is would drive me completely nuts.

Sorry about the awful sentences in my previous post- I was typing in a rush on my iPhone.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm sure it'll be fine, but this would be the third time I've had this happen with Fedex. I'm hoping in the morning that they'll find the instrument sitting somewhere in the Memphis warehouse and fly it over.

First world problems, man.

Sorry to hear that, Chris. Definitely know how you feel!!

I hope your beautiful bass arrive asap and tell me what you feel.

This is really a bummer...the whole mood of the shop yesterday afternoon was down when we heard that FedEx had "lost" Chris' bass. This happened so many times 18 months ago with UPS that we stopped using them. Now, recently FedEx seems to have gone on the fritz too...very disheartening. In the end, I am sure that it will be fine, but it's just not right...especially with the serious $$ they charge for overnight delivery. Completely candidly, FedEx Ground seems to have its stuff more together than the Express part of the company...

In the 18 months that I've been here I have not heard anything about him...

In addition to being a nice visual design element, we use it to add "spice" to the tonal mix of the instrument. Obviously, you could always use the same tone block material as the two body wings (and we do this often enough). Introducing a different wood to this part of the build definitely alters the sound of the instrument a modest degree -- not as much as the rest of the body woods, neck material or FB material, but in most cases, more than the top wood does...

Hope that this helps!

J

I have read that many do believe that.
I am wondering what exactly fodera intend the "toneblock" to do.
:)

Interesting- I've had the opposite experience with the two companies and the two sides of Fedex, but stuff happens. Everyone and every company makes mistakes, but the lack of explanation is the most troubling part from a business perspective.

As of 6:15 this morning when I called Fedex, they said that for all intents and purposes it was still lost, as Memphis had still not seen it.

Then at 6:30 the status updated as having left from Oakland to go to Menlo Park (the station near me where it's being held). Soooo I guess I'll have it today. Odd that they "lost" it only for it to show up later, but I don't even care. Whatever the explanation is, I should have it today. So all appears to be okay now, though.

The "delayed" to "lost" to "on it's way!" to "lost" to "still lost" to "almost there" with no explanation is a little weird, though. But all is well that ends well, I guess!

Didn't Mitch Cohn play on Hiromi's first cd?

I know Mitch is on Another Mind (I think that is her 1st album), which is a killer album and has some great players on it and produced by Ahmad Jamal (how cool is that!?). AJ is on it as well on bass. IIRC (for those that know Boston, especially the crossing of Boylston and Mass ave.), the son of the cat that owns Jack's Drumshop (next to Stevies Pizza :D) is also on Another Mind.

Hope that it gets to you soon and safely!

Jason, Any experience with DHL?

Bernie...pics of my Beez ...as you requested...

jeez...almost embarrasing after looking at Climb's bass today....BUT I LIKE IT and it plays as you might expect...sans the adjectives.

I'm sure it's just false modesty... but embarassing? Are you kidding me? That bass is flat out gorgeous and certainly as pretty (if not prettier) than any of my instruments, not to mention the fact that you're probably a fantastic player (and I'm not)!

Well hopefully it's all sorted out soon. That's quite the swing of emotions. I hope that I read on here later that you received the bass and all is well.

Hey Jai...Jack's isn't there any longer unfortunately, but Stevies is and they gutted it out and redid the whole thing...it's just not the same now...it's too clean!

You mean Dave Dicenso's dad owned that? I hadn't realized that. Great drummer.

Nice of you to say, thanks. As for my playing, I can never be satisfied with it....so frustrating. When my group gets something worthwhile on YouTube I'll link it here.

On another note...you guys referencing Steve's Pizza...I'd be embarrassed to admit how many of those slices I'd eaten over the years before or after a bass lesson (with Whit Browne or Bruce Gertz!). I still crave those slices! Too bad they remodeled the place, I think some of the grit on the slice is what made them taste so good....:D Good times.
