Very cool man. Actually I've found my Monarch 4 to be totally versatile. Played every thing from Rock, Funk, club dates to straight ahead Jazz. Only bass I owned for 27 years and I was playing full time for a good portion of that. On a side note, the cat in the American Idol house band has been really showing the versatility of his. He was out on stage rockin it last night.
+1 I use my Fodera-6 for many styles. With the versatility of the duals and the pope pre, I don't feel like it is limited to any one genre.

Wait, who in Mountain View??? I live here and had a degree through CCRMA at Stanford, so I probably know some of the same people. Are you going to be playing here? When/where? I'd love to go.

i kinda dropped that cause i saw you're up there. dana street roasting on 13 may. playing with g.e. stinson and andrew pask (ap works for cycling 74, maybe you know him?). i saw that max died from a facebook post.
Yeah, it's too bad- I just saw him a few weeks back when he was making the rounds.

g.e. was in a band called shadowfax back in the day. he's not doing that stuff anymore. he and i have done a band with scott amendola and nels cline called l.stinkbug.

Man, I used to listen to Shadowfax back in the mid 80's, probably one of the first prog-fusion groups I got into in my teens.

Oh I totally get that- I've only got about ~17 years or something under my belt, and for over a decade I've been playing the same 16.5mm spacing with 34" scale. I had a 35" for a long long time, but I never liked the feel as much, and it's actually taking me quite a bit of time to get used to the 33" on my Fodera. The strings feel very very different, which I didn't expect.
I've done the 19mm thing for a bit, and it doesn't upset me at all, I'm just at home on the narrow. It just happens to be that it allows me to move much less on both ends, so it's ideal. But for the same reasons as you, I wouldn't want to suddenly have to switch to 36" 6 string with 19mm spacing.
Variety is the spice of life...which is why it's okay that you guys have such horribly uncouth taste in string spacing.
Hey Chris you mentioned that your strings on the 33'' Fodera feel very very different. I'm considering having a 33"-32" inch scale made for myself because I think the smaller scale would be a little nicer all the way around, but what did you mean by "strings feeling different"? is it the string tension with the smaller scale bass thats the adjustment? thanks
So I should post a picture, but I put flush threaded inserts into the headstock so I could use machine screws for the truss cover rather than the tight, sticky wood screws. It's muuuuuch better- I can rip the cover off in less than 10 seconds if an adjustment was needed. Much better. I did the sane for the electronic cavity cover. Never need to worry about the holes stripping or going loose over time.
I highly recommend everyone do it if they hate spending excess time fiddling with the truss cover. I left it off entirely prior to putting the inserts in.

That Guy/Girl is a very good player there are a few videos really playing incredible stuff, but i have to wonder if he wears that outfit on stage when he plays? Could there be 2 FODERAS in that pic? the bass on the bed looks like one but hard to tell.
Two or three weeks now until my Yin Yang custom is ready. Just got my "4 week heads up" call a week and a half ago.
