I saw her a while ago with Stanley Clarke - officially billed as an SC gig but Stan just laid back, stayed in DB all evening an left most o the soloing to Hiromi.
Stanley was still great but it really came across as Hiromi's show, not just a fantastic musician but quite a show woman as well - which is not always easy on piano!
I'm really enjoying my Fodera after three months with it and thought I would see how I'm settling in with a casual garageband jam session with myself. I definitely feel this bass is improving my playing and tone!

The second shoe dropped today, so to speak.
Interesting comparison between the two basses. I'm interested to get the Monarch in a mix - I already know the YYD kills in a dense mix. The Monarch is 8.3 lbs (well, actually 8.24) and very comfortable to play. The neck profile is a tad beefier than the YYD - a little more meat on the shoulder but it is subtle. Tonally between the two the Monarch is a bit deeper voiced but more polite in the mids. The YYD has more inherent mid punch (which surprised me a bit) and steps into "aggressive" territory more easily.
My hunch is that the Monarch would be the choice if I wanted to lean "vintage." The only thing I fear is that I am already deeply bonded with the YYD so it frankly is hard to pick anything else up

I always get sick right after NAMM and this year is no exception. Even the zinc couldn't stave it off...

I've had very little time to play the new bass, but what I can say is that I was hoping for a bass that felt virtually the same as my YYD, but opened up new tonal options. There is no question this was delivered. In my hands, the bass feels entirely familiar. However the tone is entirely different and has so much range in its tonal settings that its going to take a while to explore them all. Now the fun begins!

Cool - congrats. I've historically been a PJ type. I have yet to play a dual coil/soapbar that I bonded with but a Monarch likely would be a worthwhile experiment.

I started from a different place. I've always liked dual coils - particularly for rock music which I play a lot of. Before getting into boutiques I was in love with Musicman basses - especially the HH models. So I was hoping to catch some of that soap bar vibe in a Fodera. In my brief time with the bass, it is clear that I have.

Did you get Victor's signature on the back of the headstock while you were at the show, or did Jason and the guys get it for you? Did you ask for that, or did they just do it?

I believe the previous owner got it. I found it that way
It's going to be an interesting weekend. The Monarch may be in a battle with the YYS for backup status. The YYD is king of the house and I'm having a hard time putting that one down.
