BOTH Todd and I were chatting at the show together about how unless it was purely to be a "Collector's Piece" for you, this was not the right bass for you. I never want any of our players or customers to buy a bass just because it is available -- unless it is right for them. We really want to forge long-term relationships and getting someone to spend over $10k on something that they will not love is a surefire way to not have that happen...

Also, in terms of spacing, our basses are built to accommodate the bridges they will be using...everything geometrically about a 19.0mm bridged bass is slightly different from a 17.5 mm one, so swapping between the two is not a real option.

I hadn't even considered the string spacing, and I'm quite sure that 19mm on a 5 string is not my bag. I loved all the pictures you took of you playing it, and the MGS. I think it's a great help to many to see the basses in the hands of an actual player, to get a better sense of the layout, size, etc. I think you did both myself, and others, a huge favor in that regard.

Lastly, I appreciate your comparison between the YYS and YYD. I guess I'm not surprised with your thoughts at all. I love your use of the language...amazing versus sublime! Outstanding! Being that I am of the over the top in terms just wanting the best of the best, I'm glad to see that you think the D is worth it to those of us who think, well, differently.

Sure it would work and going from E-C to B-G is fairly easy. Any reliable local shop can widen the nut slots for you. Once you have done that, however, we would need to cut you a new nut if you wanted to go back to E-C. The other point is that you will have a 33" scale B-string. Fine if you play light and understand a 33" B's inherent characteristics, but if you are looking for the tight, piano-like "Killer B," I would steer clear...

I have switched between E-C and B-G all the time on my Imperial ... it was ordered E-C but the nut tolerated both ways without a need of making new holes...

:)

Given the gauge of strings we use on the MGS and how the nut is cut, I do not believe that will be the case with this bass...

I have used 45-125 and 32-105 sets... both worked (and the Bass came with the 28-100 set on it) - but of course the strings were laying a bit higher on the nut when I used the B-G tuning...but not that much

I only mentioned it because this way he could try it first (with a 120 B String for example) and see if he likes it or not without having the nut getting modified first and finding out later that he does not like the new tuning ;)

Sure. Like any bass it depends on what you're used to. 17.5mm spacing might be tight for some who prefer to slap on a bass with 19mm. Also it was set up with really low action and some guys might not prefer that. It favors a light touch. I was able to slap it but I used to play Zons with 17mm spacing so it doesn't bother me. Also the ramp is removable if you want a more traditional setup.

This trio will BLOW YOU AWAY. One of the very high points of my musical life last year was watching them play together. Awe inspiring...
