Fodera Club Part XIX

It is the second lightest Fodera that I own at 8.8 pounds. Although I purchased it as a stock instrument (from the 2009 NAMM Show), before I was a partner, the neck shape is virtually identical to the "Jason Shape." This instrument and my 2008 Yin Yang (Purpleheart / Pau Amarillo), formed the basis of how I have had every one of my custom necks carved since. It is pure coincidence that their necks are virtually identical and that is one of the reasons that I fell in love with it...

Dave's a joy to work with when we get to build stock instruments for him. He is every bit as fanatical about the finest materials as we are and love to let our imaginations run wild -- and always with just the right amount of input to really create some great stuff.

Actually, Hou, I was asking about the as yet unfinished twin to the pink ivory-boarded Monarch, which is a 35" Imperial, with almost identical specs to the Monarch. I've already gotten some info from Dave offline on that new one. Why I'm asking, I have no idea...not like I can afford another custom Fodera at the moment, given that I've just paid for my new bass, that I won't even have until next week (if I'm lucky!) I guess we all just love to live in fantasy world...but then, the new bass that's coming next week was a fantasy at one point, too!

Sorry, Dave was out of town and my wife and 5 month old daughter were in the truck.

I had a good chat with Mary and she let me play Dave's personal olive-topped Imperial 6. Wow! I have never been a singlecut fan, but his is a work of art and played like a dream.

I will very likely be buying my next Fodera from him in any case.

Great folks to deal with.

Did my first string change on the E5S. I picked up a couple of .130 nickel tapered sets to try out. The bridge is so flexible in adjustment and I was back in business in no time. The B has a great feel and tone is warm and just kicks it. I followed the installation instructions to a T. Hand made is definitely the way to go. Now if I could only give my fingers a break. LOL

I really like .040-.120 Fodera Stainless stings on my E5S. They sound amazing when new and last pretty well.

I bought a bunch of sets when I was at Fodera in mid March and put on a new set as soon as I got home. I play every day and likely average 10 hours of playing time on a slow week. In any case, my 6 week old strings are just sounding 'blah' now. Not bad as I really don't like old strings at all and change them as soon as they lose major brightness.

Oh, and if you buy a 10 pack, they are well under $30 for a 5 string set which is very competitive IMO.

P.s. the instructions ARE great. I have been changing bass strings for 30 years.... Never thought to do the little crimp at the end of the string.:hiding:
