Fodera Club Part XIX

Quoting myself, I thought I'd let anyone know, who might be interested, that the 'twin' bass (to this one): [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]


It's yet to be completed (2-3 weeks), and will be a regular shape Imperial, the only differences to the Monarch shown, besides the body shape, is that it will be a 5 string (a 2-3 headstock), and a 35" scale. And, for what it's worth, the price, for such an amazing instrument, is a screaming deal, IMHO. I'm not soliciting for this thing, as I'd love to get it myself, but in the interest of helping out the Fodera lovers here, thought I'd pass it on. Oh, by the way, it's at Ultimate Bass, in Canada.

This is the same one Jason is thinking about buying back from Ultimate Basses (see above posts).

I was at Ultimate Basses this afternoon and would definately have checked it out... But that bass is still at the Fodera shop.

Hi Baird,

You are correct, the Monarch pictures in my post above is the bass that Jason is interested in, and yes, the Monarch has not yet left the Fodera shop. Neither has the Imperial, which, as I wrote, is 2-3 weeks away from being complete. Love that pink ivory, which is shown to an amazing degree in the 6 string Emperor II that I'd talked about before, currently living at Bass Club Chicago... If that EII in Chicago was a 5 string, 34", I'd have purchased it months ago (well, in buy dreams, at least :help:).

The pink does look great!

I'm with you on the 6er thing. I played a 6 string Fodera very briefly today and it was incredible.... but I have come to realize I am a 5 string (B-G) guy. Even when I tune a 5er E-C, I am just lost with the C!

A 34" 5er with a great B is what suits me best.

Man that will be an incredible bass. I could just imagine what shipping way out here would be. Muuuuussssssttttt fight off GAS. Need to purge a few things first. Like the Smith that now gets no attention since Vinny arrived.

LOL. Yeah, I learned the hard way on buying tires and rims for My Mustang. Could have bought two extra rims and tires for what USPS charged for shipping from AZ to HI. I think I'll use Bass Central again on the next one. They helped me out on the shipping which was really pretty nice of them. Beaver Felton and Grasshopper are very standout in taking care of their customers. From what I can tell the guys at Ultimate Basses appear to be the same way.

You know Baird in all there are pretty great people on this thread.

Yep. LOL. Vinny the E5S, Kenny is my Smith 6 and has a bad attitude so he sits in the corner and
doesn't get much attention. Mikey is my Fbass BN5 named after Mike Porcaro who for me has one of the
best pocket grooves and has been a huge influence on me picking up the instrument.

I guess the next Fodera is getting the name Joey.

My wife kind of came up with the names stuff. (She doesn't care for Kenny too much).

That is way too humorous. I can visualize your bass sitting in the corner like a kid who has been sent there for quiet time.

I've know Ken Smith for almost 30 years now and respect him for his perfectionist attitude towards their build quality. On that note, I've had way more customers sell their 'Kenny's' to move into a 'Vinny' than the other way around. That is in no way a slight against Smith basses. I love the Melvin Davis tone playing his 7 string on this vid: I still have a MD7 on my wish list.

I think that is so cute! I can relate to names for instruments, and more. Many would think I'm nuts, but I have names for many of my things, guitars and basses included. As a 54 year old person, I have stuffed animals, and most of them have names, and most of you would probably classify me as scary and worthy of putting away in a padded room. But, somehow, naming things just makes them more 'mine', if that makes sense. In any event, I think the way you named your basses is just great!

The only bass I have a name for is 'Olive'. It's my Imperial 6 string, http://www.fodera.com/Main/NewBornDetails.aspx?FeaturedItemID=237, that I dedicated to Mary's mother. Olive, loosely translated in Chinese means Yue Ling. Well, maybe not but it works.

Naming your basses after the great folks at Fodera is a perfect idea. I think my next Custom build with the 1920's Mahogany body will be known as 'Laura'.

The Pink Ivory FB Monarch will be coming home with me tomorrow and the Quilted Spalted Maple Monarch will be headed to a friend and customer on the other side of the World!
