Thanks Steuart. We actually provide a printed out copy of the truss rod information with each new / Pre-Owned bass that we sell. That said, you would be amazed at how few people actually seem to read that stuff! LOL!

Ok, this makes some more sense to me. I think my local luthier didn't like the lemon oil stuff that gets used and likely overused.
I'll try some mineral oil on my board next time I change strings.

Does that mean that oilier woods will not need oiling?
My main basses have brazilian Rosewood fingerboards...

yeah, i don't think i ever got any of those since i predated that regimen ;-)

and i needed it! cause, even though i haven't touched most of my truss rods, i had to flip two and i needed to read up on how that was different.

i know that most people never seemed to understand the early bridges, which resulted in a bunch of stripped screws, etc.

I imagine the neck joints play a role, too - the Viceroy is bolt-on and the Emperor is dove-tail. I had specific tone goals in mind when I ordered each one, and they both hit the mark spot-on.

The Emperor has what I imagine the "classic Fodera sound" to be, although each Fodera has its own character. The Viceroy is a little more punchy and "out there" tone-wise. Both have an articulate attack - very tight. Between the two, I don't think there's a tone I can't cop.

I can't remember if I had the 2 or 4 wire pickups, but either way I never use a coil tap because side-by-side humbuckers never really sound like proper single coils (due to placement or whatever). To be honest I never use the other two switches, either- I just keep the mid selector on the "low" side and leave it be.

I don't remember asking for a switch being left out, though, so I think the pickups must've been 2 wire + shield, so a tap is impossible. But like I said, I never use the tap anyway.

Long time listener, first time caller... :)

Tired of sitting on this info... :)

I should have a Monarch 5 bolt-on later this year. First one I've ever owned. Ash body, flamed maple top (below), ebony board, abalone dots, dual coils.

Here's the wood I selected for the top, raw...

Here's a quick/dirty bright/contrast to show what it might look more like when finished, tho I think it'll be better than this, actually... :)

WOW! Congratulations she sounds like a winner! Welcome to the dark side. I fully expect we will be hearing about the second one before or soon after you get her...lol! :D

So I'm hearing slippery slope, dark side, second one, etc. Getting scared already. :)

Seriously tho, even after having the good fortune to gig a couple of these things before making this expensive decision, I'm still a fan of the more traditional designs and will always have them as primary rotation instruments.
