Same here with the Emperor vs. Monarch dilemma... I love my E5S but it is a big bugger. My first Custom is locked and loaded as a Monarch... My second is currently a Monarch.... But maybe a Viceroy is an option....

Off the top of my head I would say that Maple, Buckeye and Walnut are probably the three most often requested top woods...and likely in that order. Getting great Buckeye is getting really, really hard now. Sadly at some point it will likely go the way of Chestnut...

It totally goes in phases. For the past three or four months it has been between the new Elite with Ash body, Chestnut Tone Block, Brazilian FB and Crotch Walnut top and the Elite withe the Pink Ivory FB...

Prior to that I was on a pretty long run with my Yin Yang Deluxe (Purple heart and Pau Amarillo)...

I keep toying with doing something sensible like selling all but one or two of my Monarchs and paying down the mortgage on our house, but then I can never decide which ones I would sell and, thankfully, I have a very understanding wife! I really do enjoy having options as each bass brings out nuances in the way that I play (and hear)...

It was great seeing you (as always) and I will definitely pass your kind words along to Vin. Kid in a Candy Shop is definitely one of the best ways to describe how Vin approaches his "work." Actually that's something that we all share. Sadly, however, part of my job description is actually keeping us somewhat near being on schedule...

This was only my second time seeing Vinny in person and it was so cool to see him in his element. He was like a kid in a candy shop trying to show me all his projects he's working on, and Jason was trying to get him back to work :), I'm glad Vinny was winning out because I got to see some really cool things today. It amazed me how passionate Vinny still is for his craft and how excited he was to show me his work.

He is working on an amazing inlay piece that is super geeky awesomeness and will blow your minds. Jason and Vinny also showed me the master's new hybrid which is awesome and the gloss neck is just butter to feel. There's no way I could ever play that beast, it's huge and at the same time amazing how lightweight it is for its size.

Again Jason, you and Vinny made me feel like I was your only customer the way you treated me and worked out all my custom options and my extremely detailed nuances that make for a perfect bass to me. Thanks again, and tell Vinny how much I appreciated his time today.

It amazes me how well you know your customers, you were able to explain to Vinny exactly what I wanted on this new build, my playing style, what I would notice, and what I'm super picky and OCD about. I really didn't need to be there, but it was reassuring to know I'm getting exactly what I want down to the .25mm tolerances on the neck carve. I always love coming to the shop, and its always a class act at fodera.

Just my opinion, but I can't tell the difference between the Emp and the monarch. I go back and forth, set to set, and they play the same. For me, the different pickups are the only difference. As for the E2, it's balanced well and does not feel heavy. Also, I'm guessing the mass contributes to the tone, and it has it. I don't play the E2 as much as it's a 5, but I would not rule out an E2 4 at some point. YMMV

We tend to remember this stuff because we have every intention of having really, really long relationships and if you care about folks, then you care about (and remember) what maters to them). That's also why our volume is intentionally kept lower than it might otherwise be. Service has to match the instruments. You should be buying an overall experience in addition to the finest instrument that we know how to build.

I need to get up there and meet the fodera guys in person. I'm only 2-3 hours away, so that's not an excuse.

Yup. GREAT folks there. There are SO many great folks in this biz....the Fodera crew, Nordstrand, Roscoe, F Bass, CB, Skold, Elrick, Benavente, etc etc etc....some great folks building great stuff. You have to appreciate the people along with the basses.
