I am told that I am not allowed to sell this bass, but I feel like my small hands fight with the 19mm spacing. Anyway, I am considering some different wood combinations with the bolt on build (focus on slap tone) and I think I know how its going to go but if anyone has recordings/vids of their bass slapped please either send them to me or post them up. Here is little video of my Emperor Elite 5 tuned B-G which I recorded for a possible buyer. I used my iPhone, but it gives you a idea what what a Walnut/Alder - Maple/Ebony combo sounds like

Interesting, is that 60s or 70s pup spacing? It's tough to tell. I think I'm hearing 60s but I could be full of s@$&...

They definitely do- my bass has a maple body, and probably one of the few in recent years. It was actually supposed to be flamed maple, but somehow I think the dealer forgot to translate that. Didn't matter at all to me in the end because the thing is pretty enough.

Maple sounds very similar to walnut, if maybe a bit brighter/grindier. Pretty heavy.

I love it.

I like 70s single coil tone best on my foderas, I like the cut and growl I get from them. But i like the rear coil solo tone better on 60s position, so my soon to be started bass will have the sliding pickup, an extremely underrated and under appreciated option in my opinion.

Native pickup placement tone variation like the sliding pickup can't be beat, you are right. I had a proto bass along time ago with a moveable pickup it was really cool. I rewired my Fodera bass once to use the inner coil of the bridge pickup which put it at about 60's position. It sounded really sweet. Much fatter than 70's bridge position.

I assume you are going to have two pickups with a moveable bridge pup correct? please post some clips when it's done Id really love to hear it.

Sounds awesome. :) What are the other specs you have lined up? Also what kind of upcharge is there for the moveable pickup?
That's definitely something I'd be interested in when I decide to go custom.

I currently have an ES5 and have owned about 60 Laklands in both US and Skylines. I am a former Lakland endorser and had a sweet Amber 55-02 that is as good or better than any US Lakland I had to compare directly to my ES5 up until just a few weeks ago. The best thing about Lakland was their neck and their flexibility in terms of tones available on the 44 and 55 series basses. I have owned multiple Darryl Jones, Duck Dunns, Decades, and Joe Osbornes. I LOVE and prefer the neck on the ES5! I LOVE everything about the ES5! So much so that I have an ES5 Special on order as well. My ES5 weighs just over 9 lbs and does not bother me at all weight wise. I have a degenerative bone disease in my back and am pretty sensitive to weight but the ES5 works wonderfully for me and I have NO complaints at all about it. I would love to have a Fodera with the electronics capabilities of the 55 series but I am digging it just the way it is to be honest. At this point I only see myself playing Fodera and have now sold ALL my other basses and only own the ES5 and a Yin Yang Standard. This is quite a feat for me I know but they really are that good!

We really don't typically use Maple as a body wood -- unless it is by special request and the player is looking for a bright sounding instrument and does not mind the weight (adds about a pound). No difference in cost.
