The MSF4 is its own self, and isn't like any other brand. It plays very nicely, as the neck shape is good. I'm not familiar with this preamp, so some knob turning will be in order, but I like the custom preamp better, or am more familiar with it. It's heavy, that may bother some. Everybody that heard it last Friday loved it, but it's a Fodera. It will come down to whether the sound it has is the sound you want. It can definitely cop the Jaco tone, but I haven't found the old P sound yet. As I said, it plays like a Monarch, but it is not a custom. If you are spoiled by those extra features, get a custom.YMMV
