Yannick, that looks like a unique control scheme... may I ask what the controls do?

If I had to guess I'd say that the two switches are series, parrallel, single for each pickup... and the knobs are volume and balance. No EQ?

hello
sorry that I took long to answer! anyway....
I'm not too sure what series and parallel means (even in my language); the actual control is this: no volume (for an "very open sound" as said Mr. Fodera when we talked about that), tone control (the bigger one), pick-up selector (the smaller knob) and the switches are on/off (the one closer to the output) and single/dual coil. the cool thing about the last one is that you can choose the single coil closer to the bridge or the neck, which gives 3 possibilities for each pick-up.

joyeuses paques!

It will be a 33" scale, a bit smaller all-around and LIGHTER. Everything else will be the same. I was at a show that Richard did recently and we were talking about his basses...

Cool!

What did you two agree about his basses :)
From what I know Bona have two Foderas. His lovely Imperial 5 and a Beez Elite 5 fretless.

The last NYBW Bona got was 35 scale I believe!

The truth is, maybe I'll get some people who disagree. But with weight comes tone, to some degree. You can't expect to have a thonderous thick tone out of a 7 pound bass. It is simple physics. But I do love the feeling of a light bass! Talking with Bona in Oakland at his last Yoshi's show, he agreed, but was willing to make a small sacrifice for the amount of gigging he does.

I feel it really depends on what body wood you referring to when the weight discussion is addressed...
I personally feel more weight is better with Ash but a lighter Alder gives better and punchier tone...
A really heavy Ebony or rosewood top and or back quit often kills tone...

To my knowledge, Richard presently only has one Fodera. He has had others over the years, including a Monarch 4 string that he played with The Zawinul Syndicate (that I am lucky to now be the owner of). I am not aware of him owning a Beez Elite...

There is no question that the new bass will sound different. I am sure that it will be great, just different. I know that if I was gigging as much as Bona does, I would want a lighter bass. His current bass has to be around 12 pounds...northern ash and olivewood is HEAVY!

I couldn't agree more with this statement....however, yes, if I were gigging as much as Bona I'd have a lighter bass as well...or just sit down for gigs. I don't see that every being an option for him though.

Here's Bona's fretless Beez Elite. I don't think this bass got that much playing time since he used his Pensa Suhr and NYBW fretless basses most of the time.

I have said it before but you have to post pictures of your Monarchs. I would to see the Monarch 4 Bona used to own. I have some live clips with Bona playing that bass and it sounds great!

Hou...here's the one Bona used to own. Not the greatest photo...
