I might add that even if I love basses, I cannot compare it to the love I have for my family and my girlfriend.

One piece of advice from me if you really want a fodera is to think of everything you buy that is useless.
Try being objective.
if you smoke, stop and think of all the money you can save (and most of all your health) to buy your dream bass.
I analyse a lot my expenses and try to think of what I really need and what I don't.
believe me, within a year, you will find yourself with a nice amount of money that could be the beginning of an order for a fodera

or you can do what i do...marry a girl who buys you a bass for a wedding present (although it wasn't a fodera, it was a gorgeous custom fretless).

+ 1 million. this is how i have all my basses/gear. i save, and cut back on other BS spending. i used to keep what i called a gear fund that i'd put $20 a week into (and any other cash that i could spare) and before you know it, you've got $1,000...and before you know it, you've got $2,000...and before you know it, you've got a fodera.

Same here...as I have mentioned before somewhere on this forum...when I was younger I liked nice cars. Now I drive a used Toyota and with the money I save (between no lease payments and gas), I fund most of my gear purchases.

hi everyone, i am not meaning to thread hijack, but i have an elrick that i outfitted with an aero p/j set, mike pope 4 band preamp and a kahler. anyone near middlesex nj that would want to let me compare how my elrick sounds next to a fodera with a similar setup? i have been dying to try one but have not had the opportunity to yet.

ok so here's my bass

it's an imperial, flamed koa top, etc.....
I hope you like it.
this bass always cut trough, it's great!!!

yannick

Yannick, that looks like a unique control scheme... may I ask what the controls do?

If I had to guess I'd say that the two switches are series, parrallel, single for each pickup... and the knobs are volume and balance. No EQ?

i wish i could make it tonight.........:crying:

oh well...
bass was packed up and shipped out today. you could always send some sound clips of the bass flat and i can let you know if it sounded like my vw monarch. the sound of the monarch is still fresh in my head. if you want to send clips, i'd ask for pope on standby with a clip of just the P pickup, then one of just the J and one of both. what a sweet sounding bass that is. if only it had the 5th string i'd still have it.

i should have my emperor in about a week if you want to try that comparison, but it's got the duncan dual coils and not the pj setup.

Haven't recieved the bass yet, the best B's I have ever had have been on 34 and 33 scale basses. The last Bona I had with a 34 scale (non extended headstock) was killer. I figure it can hurt. I just like the look of the headstock better!

wow, i'm surprised to hear that. everyone always talks of tight B strings, or how this or that bass has the best B they've ever played...but i've never felt anything come close to the B on a 36" scale.

i think the extended B headstock looks a little spastic, but hey...whatever...the bass is still a killer player. i'll just have to get used to having a soft touch on the B so the notes will ring true with no floppiness or rattling around.

i'd love to play one of these 33" or 34" scale basses with a great tight B to see if this is really just me being ultra picky about what a tight B should feel like (or more likely if what others call as tight really isn't to me)...or if in fact there are tight B on 33" or 34" basses. could also just be a thinner gauge string on the shorter scale basses?

Oh I understand, thanks for the info, as you maybe know, I have on order a "Bona" but with a tulipwood top.
so any information is good to know.

if weight is important, you probably want to clear on that as Olivewood and Tulipwood are both REALLY heavy. Usually they will substitute Primavera as the top wood if weight matters. Looks similar nut is much lighter...
