but has anyone called them to see what the price is? I know Martha told me they would be around $8,500. I hope that is not the case with this one. I would just crap myself.Hey, I enjoy our discussions. I guess the difference between 'grinding' an argument to me and just having a 'discussion of opinions' is to at least make it clear that you understand where your 'opponent' is coming from. Most of these issues do not have a 'I'm totally right and you are totally wrong' conclusion IMO and IME.
I understand what you are saying, that the Essence isn't the root cause of the issue. I would think (unless I'm a total idiot.. which may be the case) that you could at least indicate that you understand my side of the issue, and that there is at least a little, tinsee-weensee' bit of logic to it.
Of course, if you totally disagree with 100% of what I say, then I guess we would both just be stuck with 'grinding' versus each bending a bit with new information and further explanation of each side.
I guess it's the difference between talking and shouting. I try not to shout (but of course, I'm human and 'dig in' also)
IMO... as you know, I LOVE the dialectic.
K
I laid out in detail why I didn't think the Essence was the problem you thought it was. I also laid out why, in spite of delays, I thought it made sense to build them. I didn't think I needed to state that I agree that poor communication is not a good thing. For the record, I don't think it is a good thing
I got no confirmation from anyone that my post explaining why batch building made sense did anything more than either bounce off people's heads or be outright ignored.
I'm not shouting either. A cursory read over what I wrote should make what my position is very clear but people act like I'm defending Fodera rather than explaining a specific build-related issue. Spec basses. And it's seen as a cop-out
I just get tired of people taking personal shots at me for simply holding up my side of a conversation. One person got accused of "arguing"... no one else. OTOH if I take personal shots, I'd get banned... that's just how it is.

Okay, I know this is off topic.....but has anyone called them to see what the price is? I know Martha told me they would be around $8,500. I hope that is not the case with this one. I would just crap myself.
Check it for yourself.

I truly love reading both of your posts in all areas. Great arguments and POV's. Good stuff.

My building in groups comment in post #7 must have bounced right off your head or was ignored.
Brad,
With all due repsect, you go way, WAY beyond upholding your end of a discussion. Always have, always will. Grinding as KJung mentioned is putting it lightly.

and... Brad and I are TB buddies. I love a good back and forth. I even love to argue about what a good back and forth is
Edit: I also owe 'Just Thumpin' a beer for taking his well intentioned post about a rare 'new Fodera ready for purchase', and turning it into the 'clash of the mini-titans'!
I wouldn't.
Some things aren't for everyone. I mean absolutely no offense by that. That particular bass could floats someone's boat based solely on what it is. Or not. people get to decide for themselves and I've found the coolest thing is to go "hey, it's not for me but knock yourself out". Or vice versa.
smug:
In terms of the danger of a potential drop in quality if hiring more staff, which I can see as a valid argument, and the question of efficiency/lead times:
How come that many builders of equal quality take so much less time to deliver?
I am starting to wonder if there is something in the somewhat cynical view, expressed before, that lead times may be "artificially extended" in aid of higher prices...
-And sorry if this point has been raised before!!

No offense taken. That is why I said "I would crap myself." Not everyone should crap with me in unison as we see the price for a plain old ash body Fodera.
Of course they are "want" items. I have owned a few Fodera's and they were well worth the price when I had them. Of course, I never paid close to what they charge for one now, in fact I could have almost bought 2 Imperials back in 2002 for the price of one "Essence" Fodera. For ME, the cutoff is $5,000. I planned on ordering another one in the near future, but with this stuff going about the massive price increases and other "spec" instruments being built along with the customer orders, it has turned me off. Again, that is just MY view.
I love Fodera, I love what they build, how they take care of their players/family, and the fact there is such a huge mystique about them. But, they have just reached that "out of my grasp" price range now and I have found other builders to suit my fancy.
Keep going Vinny and Joey. You are obviously doing something right with a 3 year backlog and a whole community of people fantasizing about your work.
Peace,
Chris
To put this in a different perspective:
Take a look at Ferrari. At least you can still buy your Fodera direct and not have a 30% markup on "retail" for your bass..
I'm just sayin, as long as there are idiots out there willing to part with their money and wait for years and years, then Fodera will continue as they always have. No reason for them to change.
