Fodera Yin-Yang Standard Wait Support Group

I'm not really a knob-twiddler, so when my YYS arrived in late November, I felt a little lost at times. I've been coming close to the tone I've always dreamed of, and then today... It just spoke to me. It was one of those breakthrough jams. I was just noodling away, started messing around with the knobs more - and there it was. It's so hard to put the thing down now that I think I've arrived. ;-)
Now I just have to practice more so I feel worthy slinging such a wonderful piece.

did it involve dialing in more of the p than 50%. That was the magic spot for my YYS - about 60 -65% p pup. P pup , alder body, bolt on.... for me like the magic the first time i played my 71 sunburst rosewood ....

Yes - that seemed to really do the trick! I was all over the place, experimenting with slap and fingerstyle tones, messing with the amp, turning knobs all over the place (I'm not a very smart man)... But boosting the P pickup a bit made a huge difference for me.

I went ahead and put the YYS up in the classifieds - shamed into it ;)

I loved the Emporer Std when I played it at BPL. I am *not* particularly comfortable with 19mm spacing on a 5-string and I'm also not a fan of offset body shape so I didn't pull the trigger. But the thing played and sounded sick.

If I've put the hints together correctly I could be in for more budgetary trouble tomorrow around 5:01pm. We'll see. I should at least get to touch the ones I've already paid for :D

Here's a quick, silly photo of my new baby, YYS #34, and I.

I can't praise this thing enough. Excellent craftsmanship, build quality, feel, finish, and tone. I love how light it is, and I love how the body sits in my lap. The inlay work is just phenomenal. I love the matching headstock, and I could stare into that butterfly inlay for hours. I love how it changes colors when shifted. Make no mistake, $4,750 plus tax is a big price to pay for a guy like me, but I consider this bass both an investment and a piece of functional art. I've always wanted a Fodera Monarch since I started playing 10 years ago, and I think this is the right tool to celebrate how bass has become crucial to my life and a life-long investment. Although I am not sure I would even let my best friend touch this thing!

It seems like the nut has shifted out of place by about 1mm, although I am hesitant to mention that here because I am SURE it is neither Fodera nor Bass Specialties' fault. Thing happen while in transit and when played on a sales floor. I contacted Jason and am sure that we can figure out a quick way to get the nut centered again. Since I am so close, it might actually be a fun way to see the Fodera shop! Again, _NOT_ knocking Fodera's craftsmanship here. It's just a teensy weensy millimeter that could probably be fixed in a second.

Oh, make no bones about it. Upon receipt of this bass, I'll be placing an order for my dream Fodera - a suitable partner for the ES5 - a 33" scale Monarch Deluxe 4 with alder body/ash neck/maple fb/single coils. It has begun...

What has slayed me about Fodera though is the combination of the sound, playability, and the people behind the basses. I played a few NYC basses and wasn't floored. I played the YYS and was. A week from now I'll have another two Foderas at home. So be careful - the standards are a "gateway drug." :D

kamakiriad,

You are in the same boat as me, my friend. It took less than a month after receiving my first Fodera, my YY Deluxe, before I was on the horn to Jason, ordering my own personally designed Fodera. a Matt Garrison shaped 34" scale 5 string.

Though mine was a Deluxe...my first Fodera, a gateway? Damn straight :hyper:

Bass playing time elapsed before buying first Fodera (New York City)? 30 years

Additional time elapsed before ordering second Fodera (Yin Yang Deluxe)? 8 months

Additional time elapsed before ordering third Fodera (Monarch Deluxe w dual coils)? 5 months

Number of non Fodera basses I owned before first Fodera? 8

Number of non Fodera basses I own now? 3 (with one exception, I'm keeping them for sentimental reasons)

As others have said;

Foderas spoil you for other basses..

The "Standard" series is a gateway drug!

This is correct. Presently we are completely sold out of the first 90 YYS here at the shop. That said, some dealers will still be receiving pieces from the last 20 we have left to build from the first 90. Then the plan on the Standards for the rest of teh year is:

Deliver E5S 1-30 April 1 - June 30, 2012
Deliver E5S 31-60 July 1 - September 30, 2012

Deliver MGS 1-15 July 1 - September 30, 2012
Deliver MGS 16-31 October 1 - December 31, 2012

Deliver YYS 91-120 October 1 - December 31, 2012

Yes, there is a blatant hint about what is to come this evening...you guys deserve it! And, yes, there willbe 31 (not 30) of them, but that is a story for another day. My internet connection is terrible and its time to meet the team for breakfast. Pics and vids from the show will be posted on our website throughout the show...bandwidth allowing!

Regards,

Jason

I think they sold out of the last 4 slots not long after the NAMM basses were listed.

Mine will be available come Sunday :D

Jason,
Are you producing the model standard MG? Value $$$$??

Finally got to play the YYS today at NAMM and have a nice chat with Jason. I was very impressed with the bass...great neck, very versatile electronics and and overall sexy feel.

I have never been a fan of EMG pickups, but the P/J set paired with the Pope pre really works. The bass had a really organic sound and like I have read, really begs to be slapped around a little!

This one is high on my list. I was not there to see the MG Standard, but the single cut shape is not really my thing. The pics that I have seen look great. Good luck to all who will be getting one, I'm sure they will be killer!

Thanks, Jason!
