Fodera Yin-Yang Standard Wait Support Group

I agree that the EMG/Pope preamp combo is great. I never liked EMGs, probably because they were installed with a cheap preamp in cheap(er) Schecters and the like.

I just got done playing DMB's #41 on my#34 a bit ago and I'm still blown away. There's a fundamental phat tone with a note-for-note articulation that I have never experienced before. Those legato scale runs that Stefan does during the chorus are awesome sounding.

I slapped her around tonight and seemed to buff the black paint a bit in a few spots. Is there anything I can do to un-do this? I don't usually slap and I really want to keep her looking fresh out of the case.

kamakiriad,

You are in the same boat as me, my friend. It took less than a month after receiving my first Fodera, my YY Deluxe, before I was on the horn to Jason, ordering my own personally designed Fodera. a Matt Garrison shaped 34" scale 5 string.

Though mine was a Deluxe...my first Fodera, a gateway? Damn straight :hyper:

I ordered my second about 3 or 4 weeks after receiving my first as my first was "prebuilt" except for some inlay changes and pickups. getting to actually pick the boards on basses 2-5 was special... And # 5 was the first emporer deluxe made as i had to convince them to go deluxe instead of elite which was the only way emporers were made initially... GATEWAY!!!

jumbo - when you wrote you got to 'actually pick the boards', did you mean each piece of wood, specifically, or are you meaning type of wood? I was able, remotely, to select the top and the fretboard, but the rest of the bass-to-be, such as the walnut body, the tone block, the neck, etc., will be from Fodera's woodpile. Not that I'm complaining about not having picked each individual piece of wood, but I'm curious if that's what you meant...

Got to pick the actual pieces of wood with Joey and Vinny and walking around the old shop.. This was many years ago. Body woods and all. and even the butterfly pieces way before Jason and his family. 2 of my basses have wood butterflies - maple, ebony with only the f in abalone. :hyper:

Hey all, this is technically a string question but this seems like the better place to ask given the high concentration of YYS owners.

I have a YYS on order from Bass San Diego, should arrive in December. I'm excited to try out the light gauge strings that come standard on it. Although I've found the gauge, I haven't been able to tell if the stock strings are steel (I'm assuming so) or nickel.

It will be my first foray into light gauge strings, and I'm excited to give them a try, but I'm a nickel guy all the way. Should I anticipate having to swap them out for nickel.

Further, do you think Fodera would string them up with nickel in the first place (despite what it technically means to be a "Standard" model)? I'll contact them an ask if no one knows, but I enjoy participating on TB.

Thank you!

Congrats. Looking forward to having you joining the Fodera Family!

The strings that come standard on the YYS are 40-55-75-95 Nickel. Enjoy!

Cheers,

Jason

fwiw 40-60-80-100 Fodera nickels have become my go-to string. The 40-95 set on the YYS hooked me on lighter gauge (I had played 45-105). I eventually found the 40-100 to be "just right."

I played a YYS the other day with 40-100 gauge (found someone locally who let me spend 20 minutes or so playing theirs before I pulled the trigger with Bass San Diego) and I really dug the gauge, but he had steel's on it - not my cup of tea. So I thought it was worth checking on. But I agree, they are great, I love how they don't try to "fight back" on certain techniques, it's like they're just along for the ride.

I appreciate your help with this decision nostatic, you've been great!
