I"m looking for clean un-messed with Gretsch TK-300 bass, either finish ok. Thought to be one of the most uncool basses of all time -- so it's perfect for me. This is kinda contingent on selling the NR T-Bird I have for sale up here but thought I would put the word out.

I was unfamiliar with this model so I took a ride on the Google train to have a look.

The world needs people like you prepared to step up and proudly display your total lack of good taste!
It'd be a sad place if everyone used properly-designed good-looking basses.
With you out there playing that, the rest of us can feel happy knowing we got it right.

As an owner of 2- these are brilliantly designed

The indent at the bottom is genius - it will not fall over.

The neck is easy to play - Filtertron blacktop sounds great - and

Red is a lot rarer than natural.

I did use one for a while and loved confounding vintage P bass snobs with it, since I owned and played P-bass #0186.
TK 300 rules at least in my alternative reality. There were some ugly 70s Ovation basses also.

If your still looking a mint red one is on reverb - even has the bridge cover.

I have a 69 Precision - I reach for the TK300's when going to a gig.

I have run into sniffy vintage P Bass snobs -- who have cracked on my TK-300...then I tell them I actually owned P-Bass #0186 and prefer the TK-300 and heads explode.

We used to call this model the Gretsch Hockey Stick, better than TK-300 honestly. A guy from the late 80's -early 90's punk scene down in Gainesville used to play a guitar version, it was definitely cool.

Most of the ... disdain ... for the TK 300 when it was introduced came from 3 things, IIRC:
1. It was one of the first - if not the first - of the Baldwin-era Gretsches. Die hard Gretschistas hated everything that Baldwin came up with; and as you can see, piano companies aren't exactly the world's greatest bass/guitar designers, anyway...
2. It was one of the first - if not the first - solid body Gretsches. Die hard Gretschistas hated solid body basses/guitars...
3. Die hard Gretschistas aside, TK300's were inexpensive compared to a "real" Gretsch; they didn't sound like a "real Gretsch; and back in the day? Yeah, they were pretty funny looking; even if you liked solid bodies...
Personally, I didn't like them because - IIRC - there were (as usual) no leftys...
