Ditto~! There are just as many boutiques as any other that are in just as much need of rework, whether by need or desire by the owners. Everyone is looking for some mysterious tone that they won't get until they return to the TRUE bass tone, i.e.: UB
Perhaps if you have spent 2-3-4 times as much, you have trouble handling the truth that SX is better, no?
That fact that people can even make such an argument considering the price differential between an MIA and an SX speaks volumes, don'tcha think?![]()
I'm ordering Friday but can't decide on the black jazz 5 string to do a 5 string Geddy look or one of those sharp quilted wood grain 4 string jazzes. I just keep looking at both of them and can't decide!!!

Oh, how I love the wonderful idea that anytime you have disagreement/issue/difference of opinion on a subject these days with a certain age group you're branded a "hater"...
Fact is, I'm not a fan of SX basses - not because of their price (or more clearly their lack thereof), quality of wood/pickups/hardware/Quality Control, but that the vast majority of owners I've spoken to and heard from have done at least some modifications to them. And a great deal of them not to improve on the bass primarily like the modding community, but to make them simply playable which I think defeats the whole purpose of their price-point, especially when "Beginner Basses" such as Squires, Ibanez, Yamaha and others have risen the bar tremendously compared to the near-unplayable "Pro Session" P-bass copy I started on... and not in the '60s or '70s, but 1989. I simply think there is much better around what they sell for, and that every year the competition increases.
If you plan on being a long term member here, I'd suggest you tone it down with the disrespect. If not, I can all but assure you your stay here will be short lived.Hope u got it all out, now breathe, there we go big fella feel better now. I don't want you to strain from heavy lifting dem there big'em words. If "garbage" be it on one side and U be it on the other...choices, choices... I'll go with the gabage it smells a whole lot betterThank you
I'll take it as a complement coming from whomever U be

Rondo doesn't sell the black bass with a block inlay neck so I plan on changing that out to make a Geddy Lee look alike.Personally I'd stay clear of both. The finish I had on my maple SX neck was a sort of bright orange 'fake tan' varnish stain which looked awful, and I'm not a fan of photo tops.
The neck with the maple board and block inlays has a much lighter finish and looks a lot more natural.
If it's going to be a 5 string I'd seriously consider this one Link Removed
For the money, SX are very good basses once you've done a simple set up and smoothed off a few sharp frets, but as it is with almost any bass, YMMV when you take it out of the box.

Maybe there's need to post this again, so here we go...
You can count one person who owns and plays an SX that has really done nothing but set it up and played it.
.
I have an SX, and it did not need serious modifications in order to be playable. I know this is the point of many arguments against SX. I had to do a simple set-up on my SX when I pulled it out of the box. I tweaked a few nuts and screws, and that was that.

I'm not a modder when it comes to basses....they either have "it" or they don't. If they don't they don't stick around long.
