The late Mark L. Adams (the Hanslor) - Bassist for the band Slave. That guy could lay down the funk like nobody's business. He's still one of my all time favorites, and in my opinion highly underrated.
Allright, last one, I promise!
Pick solo on a P bass!
Also, check out how he moved the pickup cover back a little so he can rest his hand on it. Any picks players that did/do something like this that you remember?
Hard to believe this man has not been mentioned
Anthony Jackson
I've been listening to his playing on the Al DiMeola records from the seventies. What a great musician!
I read through the thread and was surprised Paul Chambers was not mentioned. I might have missed something but I dont believe anyone else listed him. Given your comments what else can I say. I just feel fortunate to have a lot of his work on my play lists. Just love that 'walkin' and his solo's, still over the top by today's standards....!!surely.....

John Wetton - another bass player (as well a lead vocalist) who has a long history of playing with some outstanding groups.
Don't know if he really qualifies as forgotten, but I'm listening to Chicago Transit Authority's 1st album right now and damn, Peter Cetera can play some bass! Groove MONSTER!

Maybe that's why his name hadn't been mentioned yet.

dennis dunaway is high on the list. but he is still remembered by musicians. a big one for me though is Greg Chaisson from badlands. 3 badlands albums. he had one solo album, and played in Die Happy, Red Sea, and blindside blues band after badlands. amazing tone. classic blues rock bassist but very aggressive, moving basslines.
