Paul Chambers
"Fang" of Paul Revere and the Raiders did some cool (and heavy for the mid-'60s) bass lines. And +1 for Dee Murray; what a great player. Elton John was never the same without him.
And now for some old schoolers:
Jerry Scheff - Played in Elvis Presley's backup band, and did the bass on the Doors song LA Woman, and other tunes you've probably have heard before. His son Jason plays bass in the band Chicago.
The late Mark L. Adams (the Hanslor) - Bassist for the band Slave. That guy could lay down the funk like nobody's business. He's still one of my all time favorites, and in my opinion highly underrated.
