Hi everyone. My name is Steve and I am an F1aholic.
(clap, clap, clap)
At one time I used to watch every practice session, qualifying session, and every race as it happened. I also followed every website on Earth that even dared to mention F1. I used to plan my life’s schedule around getting my next fix - watching F1 - without regards to my family’s needs or wants.
I worshipped at the alter of THE Scuderia. I spent my life’s savings on F1 apparel, souvenirs, and tickets. I neglected my husbandly duties so I could watch F1 races in the middle of the night.
Then.....
I found THE CURE!!!!!!!!!!
(clap, clap, clap)
Who knew that the cure could be so simple and so inexpensive?
First, a tiny bit of background:
Speed Channel carried F1 and it was unbelievably good. Then NBCSN got the broadcast rights and it was almost as good, but I couldn’t understand why the same announcers had to wear NBC jackets and ties. Then came Sky Sports.
David Croft (aka Crofty) is the main announcer for Sky. He is great except:
1) He can pronounce the drivers’ names as long as they are British names (who is Joe Vinotzee?)
2) When anything even slightly exciting happens he speaks faster than the guy on the old FedEx commercials. His voice also goes up about two octaves. The result is that no one can understand what he is saying.
3) His command of English grammar is slightly behind that of my youngest grandson (age 3 1/2 weeks). He hails from the country that created the darn language!!!!!
4) He appears to have little knowledge of F1 rules so he makes up rules as he speaks. Thank goodness there is a former driver there to correct him.
5) When the F1 feed includes radio transmissions between drivers and the teams, he loves to ignore the important conversations so he can hear his own voice.
6) etc., etc., etc.
The result is that he has sucked all of the fun from F1 and my life can now be classified as normal. I now DVR the races and watch them when time allows.
(clap, clap, clap)
Thank you. My name is Steve and that is my story.
