Christian said it was a desperate attempt by Lewis. I don't know about that, but I do think Lewis was a bit too gung-ho with that move. He should know your don't win a race in the first corner (not in this case) or at least the first lap.

I hope Max will be okay to drive in a couple weeks.

I thought both Max and Lewis shared responsibility for the incident.

Both had room to give a little before the impact.

Just glad Max wasn't seriously injured... or worse.

It smacks of Desperation from Lewis Hamilton..
He is aging and does not like his throne being taken from the young upstart, Max Verstappen!

Desperation leads to erratic driving and taking unnecessary risks.....Lewis looks like a Rookie.
Max paid a heavy price!

I feel the Lewis' penalty at Silverstone was appropriate. There are 5-second and 10-second versions of the penalty, and Lewis received the heftier of the two. Yet because the Mercedes team has a very quick car right now, they were able to come back and win the race. Most teams which are assessed a 10-second penalty during a race don't recover.

And for those crying that Lewis should be suspended, that's complete garbage -- you can't lay a heavier penalty on a team just because they're good.

I thought it was a surprisingly good weekend of racing.

I still would prefer grid position to be set by qualifying, but the Sprint Race went WAY above my expectations w/ regards to it being a REAL race (especially in positions 3-15). Most of the guys left nothing in the bag and it was a lot of fun to watch. Really enjoyed it.
Sunday race was good to the end, too. My $.02, it was a racing incident. Both drivers could have eased off into the corner, neither did, one came off worse (it could have been either or both). Risk vs. reward, plain and simple.

I am VERY happy that Max is ok, it would have really sucked if he wasn't, but if you don't want to end up in the barrier at 190 mph, don't turn in to the car you know is beside you. On corner entry, Lewis had position alongside, by the rules, that gave him permission to be where he was. Lewis definitely had his elbows out (like Max always does) and could have (should have?) taken a tighter line through Copse, but if he had, he would have had to run wide on the exit due to entering from right side of the corner and maybe given Max the chance for the reverse on the back side of the corner? It's racing, folks. If the Stewards felt the need to discourage such behavior, IMO the 10 second penalty was appropriate. A slap on the wrist? I think it is a little more than that for any other team/driver than Mercedes/Lewis, but it lets everyone know they are watching and it's not just "anything goes."
Fun to see Lewis win at Silverstone. Good for the fans.
Looking forward to the Hungaroring and Max's ever widening elbows in that one!

What are all the fins and wings and pods and things that stick off the car every which way? Are those antennas, sensors, cameras or what? If those are all there for aerodynamics, I'll be very surprised.

Also, I recognize Lewis received the radio message during the race, saying that Max walked away after the crash... but I still believe his celebration was a bit excessive given the circumstances.

Obviously, if Max had been carted off on a stretcher, the post-race fun would've been dialed down.

Don't know which one(s) specifically you're referring to but there are cameras and antennae as well as aerodynamic aids all over the car. There's a ton of telemetry being sent back to the pits and the factory during a race (and practice and quali) from a boatload of sensors.

I can see where telemetry would be a helpful thing during say an endurance race (LeMans, etc.) for a fifty lap race just prep the car the best you can and then let the driver do his or her thing, its getting far more complicated then it needs to be IMO. Those new steering wheels are whack, you dont need all that crap to drive fast.

There's also the 10 second stop-and-go penalty; personally, I think Lewis should gotten that one.

I was watching some European Group C racing on you tube, Gorgeous race cars with nothing but analog switches and no mumbo jumbo cluttering up the steering wheel, Awesome racing too I would add.

The problem with going ultra high tech is all that stuff costs boatloads of money, eventually you price yourself right out of competitors. Whose going to go see a race with only a handful of cars ? its already happening in other racing series.

Every year it gets harder to secure the funding it takes to make these engineer's and designers fantasies come true. At some point the accountants say "we can go racing and go broke or we can stay home and stay in business".

When Perez did exactly the same thing to Raikkonnen later in the race, and spun him off the track, it was deemed a 'racing incident' and no further action was taken.
I spoke earlier in the thread about Max Verstappen having a problem keeping his cool. That was based on previous races in previous seasons where he got petulant when anyone tried to pass him.
I think Red Bull totally overreacted to this. It's racing. Do they not want a race? Stinks of the Prost whining about Ayrton Senna all the time.

Note last race when Lewis go stuck behind Lando Norris, and once he'd passed him he said, "He's a hell of a driver." Lewis likes the challenges posed by great drivers. He loves to race fast drivers. It's what he does.
Elbowing challengers is what Verstappen does.

Remember Mika Hakkinen? Let anyone past him. Just won back the position a little later... Patience is something Mr. Verstappen doesn't have. His father was great, and he COULD be greater.

What do y'all expect to see during the summer break? My short list:

• Checo getting a Red Bull extension
• Kimi finally announcing his retirement
• Valtteri to Alfa Romeo in 2022
• Alfa will decide whether to keep or replace Giovinazzi with a Ferrari junior driver at the end of the season
• George Russell to Merc in 2022
• Latifi staying at Williams due to his cash money
• Merc junior driver to Williams in 2022
• No change at Alpha Tauri until end of the season. Pierre will look to jump to McLaren or Alpine after next season

Would Russell meekly move aside to let Lewis past like Valteri did at Silverstone? I suspect not. If they expect Red Bull to be close next season then they may want someone who'll do as they're told in that scenario.

PS - I live close enough to Silverstone to hear the cars on a still day.
