I'd like to see Bottas remain at Mercedes next season, especially with an all-new car to develop. Go with the proven team that runs up front, sits on pole a bunch and wins a bunch of races. Why throw Russell in there who isn't as polished and as smooth as Bottas? Yes, I realize it's a matter of experience in good equipment... but it just makes sense to me. However, if I were a bettin' man, I'd put my money on Russell getting a new ride in '22.

An all-Finn lineup at Alfa would be kinda fun, I suppose. Kimi probably hates Bottas... haha! Btw, is it just me or is the Alfa running a tick quicker this year (would make sense seeing that Ferrari is running a little better, too). Giovinazzi has had his moment in the sun; I think it's time for someone else to snag his ride.

The Gasly/McLaren rumors that have sparked up over the past week or two are certainly interesting. Gasly is a gazelle. I like that guy and in the McLaren, he'd be a monster. McLaren is the third-best team on the grid and they're probably gonna get better over the next couple of years.

I still say Danny Rick is going IndyCar racing in a few years. And keep your eye on Pato O'Ward, folks... that kid's got a bright future.

If Russell doesn't get the Mer seat there is some monkey business going on.

Bottas will, most likely, stay with Mercedes through next year, at least, so Toto can see how he does with the new car (don't quote me on this if it doesn't happen ). However, that race last year with Russell was pretty revealing, wasn't it?

Here's another scenario, but too late for it to happen, for now, anyway. There seems to have been some discussion as to whether Toto will stay with Mercedes, so how about this: Wolff F1 with Lewis and Danny as drivers, leaving Bottas and Russell with the Silver Arrows. All hypothetical, of course.

To add to the intrigue, this "new" Wolff F1 team with contract with Red Bull Powertrains Limited as their engine supplier.

I don't see Toto leaving. He's got the keys to the castle for the best team on the grid (yes, despite Max leading the points, the Mercedes squad is, without a doubt, the best team in the sport today. Plus, he's invested so much time in the '22 car, I know he wants to stick around to see how it does.

Russell did well last year when he was subbing for Lewis... but I believe you could've plopped any decent driver with enough prep in that seat and they would've achieved similar performance. (Note: I wrote "decent driver" )

I've been a huge Pierre fan for a while and could definitely see him jumping to McLaren after next year. Danny and Lando are both contracted through next year and Zak Brown says he won't break a contract unless one of the drivers does something incredibly stupid and gets fired, hence why I think he'll stay with Alpha Tauri through next season.

Agreed. Yeah, even if Ricciardo continues to run where he's been running, I seriously doubt Zak will can him at the end of this season.

It was, certainly by far, the most "interesting" race of the season. And nobody can say that Bottas didn't help his team mate out this race.

I absolutely loved the one car on the grid re-start! Hamilton must have felt really weirded out by that.

That re-start was bizzare. I loved the way Alonso fought Hamilton. Too bad he couldn't keep it up. Good on Ocon, and Vettel even if he was disqualified. Bad day for Bottas and a 5 grid-spot penalty next race.

The best racing was those laps between Alonso and Lewis. I really was hoping for Hamilton to make a mistake.

A few observations from today...

1. Finally -- Alpine transfers their quick practice speeds to great results on Sunday!!! I've been hoping for this! They've got a fast car. It may not be constantly quick as the McLaren, Red Bull or Mercedes, but there's no doubt they've had the best car they (Renault) has turned out in years. Good for them! When Alonso retires, that's gonna be a coveted seat up for grabs.

2. Alonso was a stud today. His battle with Hamilton was outstanding... some of the best on-track action all year. If that was Max vs. Lewis today, people would be gushing about it for years. Rosberg is ridiculous for repeatedly saying Alonso "cost Hamilton the race." What does Rosberg expect Alonso to do -- pull over and let Hamilton go just because it's Lewis Hamilton??? HECK NO!!! Alonso did exactly what he should have -- fight and protect the position. And then, Rosberg defends Bottas' opening lap calamity? Whatever, Nico... check your allegiance to Mercedes at the door when you go to work.

3. Red Bull's developments on their car pushed Mercedes to up their game... and now Horner knows he's hosed as Mercedes has the quick car (based on qualifying). It will be interesting to see if these two teams further up their game this season.

4. I had to smile when I saw a few comments online calling Christian Horner "Karen Horner" due to all of his recent complaining. Haha!!!

5. A great run for AlphaTauri today. Gasly continues to roll. Tsunoda had a rough Friday and Saturday but a solid Sunday. However, that kid needs to watch the badmouthing the teammate on the radio... I didn't like that.

6. F1 better crack down on the unsafe releases -- too many of them this weekend.

7. To quote a buddy of mine who is a Danny Rick fan, "Ricciardo is a mess." How can Zak be happy with him? I'd love to see him turn this around... but wow, if he hasn't done it by now...

8. Make no mistake -- it was an atypical race and a bunch of weird stuff happened, but Williams still stinks.

9. Hungary is a fun track. Lots of folks bash it, calling it a go-kart track with few places to pass... but it usually provides great action and leaves us all talking.

It was, certainly by far, the most "interesting" race of the season. And nobody can say that Bottas didn't help his team mate out this race.

I really feel for Seb on that one. The technical issue was nothing to do with him, and he drive a clean race. I could understand the stewards docking the team the points for the constructors championship, bit punishing Vettel as well seems a little unfair.

I would love to see the telemetry from Bottas’s car re: when he applied the brakes and how hard he depressed the pedal.

Bottas took out 5 cars directly and got 5 grid places in the next race. Seb was a little short on fuel and had his 2nd place finish and the entire race erased. Seems equitable to me.

I saw two guys battling for position. Regardless of how good Lewis' team is or how many titles he's won, he's still got to fight to pass cars which may be faster than or competitive with his.

It seemed to me that Alonso was blocking Hamilton, to protect his team mate and help Ocon win today....Great team work...and great racing!

I was so happy for Vettel...But now it seems so unfair to see him disqualified...Boo!!!

Folk forget that Alonso is a wily old fox, perhaps the best all-road driver of his generation. Put him out there in a wheelie bin and you still have to work hard to get past him. It's a shame he's made so many mis-steps choosing teams, and got involved in too much politics over the years else he might have a few more championships under his belt. It would indeed have been bloody hard work for Hamilton, and I agree that probably drained him.

Totally agree. Hindsight being 20/20, Alonso left McLaren too soon. But at the time, it was what he felt was right and he wanted to go to Dakar, Indy and Le Mans... so you can't blame the guy as he's a true racer, cut from old-school cloth where guys jumped around and competed in different types of cars.

Additionally, I loved seeing him give Hamilton a hard time yesterday... and anything that makes Hamilton jump on the radio and whine to his crew is okay by me.
