That's largely BS. You apparently weren't around for his pre-Red Bull and Red Bull days when he was crushing. He's the real deal. A driver moving to a different team and having struggles they didn't have at other teams is a story that has happened a ton of times over the decades. He's an absolute top drawer driver in F1, though.
At the moment, Herta would not qualify for a superlicense without an exception being made. They could make one for the possibility of having an American driver in F1, but that has not happened in recent decades and teams have been very wary of porting over an Indycar driver since, what...da Matta in ~2002? It's very possible, but I'd be surprised if McLaren took that plunge.
Joe Saward is a great journalist but he often trends into the highly speculative. I'm sure he has sources, but a lot the speculative bits don't pan out.

I recall Danny Rick winning seven races in his five years with Red Bull (respectable) during the era Mercedes was actually "crushing." I also recall the Aussie turning tail for Renault after Max started to turn up the pace. I'm not a big Christian "Whiny Spice" Horner fan, but he absolutely nailed it when he said Ricciardo was "running away from a fight" after choosing to leave the team. If Ricciardo had stayed put and gutted it out, it would've worked wonders for his career.
Why are some folks (more than a year later) still using Ricciardo's move to McLaren as an excuse for his sub-optimal performance? But while we're on the topic of his first year with McLaren, Ricciardo had nine finishes out of the top-10 last season -- Lando only had two. And so far this year (in which all F1 drivers got a new car
), Lando is eating his lunch. It's no surprise that I've read multiple articles over the past few weeks in which Zak is being asked about Danny's future with the team. If it wasn't for last year's Monza victory, Danny's seat would be white hot (instead of red hot).
Ricciardo's big personality and self-promoting style will be an absolute dream for Roger Penske, IndyCar and their sponsors... and I do believe Danny will be much happier as there's less pressure, he'll be closer to his Southern California home, etc. My question is when he shows up for his first Sebring test, will he be driving one of Zak's IndyCars?

I think it's par for the course in top tier motor sport. You have to be a little unhinged to do what they do, and for some that manifests itself in social dysfunction. Got to watch some of the practice laps today, the course does look like it will offer some drama. Is it as tight as it seemed? I never saw a full overview with the cars running.
It's narrow, for sure. The long straight will help.
After watching practice, I'm not as disappointed as I expected to be. For a new circuit made in the parking lot of a stadium, it's far from terrible.
However, it's gonna be interesting to see 20 cars out there together.

Yes, i watched today, it was cool. I think being one of those 20 F1 drivers, might rival rock stardom, or 70's astronauts. The level of model type women these drives get is just unreal

The race itself was much better than I was expecting.
The pre-race paddock interviews with Martin Brundle and the post-race interviews with Willy T. Ribbs were embarrassingly awkward and cringe-worthy. Sure was a lot of fluff before the race.

Yeah, it was a very good race, for sure. And it seems that George is the new Mercedes star, now. Hamilton had his day in the sun, maybe, like Schumacher did in the his era.
Both were pretty sub-par. I was most surprised with Martin; he was way off his game, today, like he was star-struck or something.

Yep, Willy T was even lamer than Brundle seemingly just grabbing random punters. And speaking of fluff, where was the Danica Patrick surgery update piece?
The Miami pit road appeared to be super-packed before the race. Martin and his crew were having a tough time working their way through the crowd. The mistaken identity of "Patrick Mahomes" was one of the more terrible moments.
I've grown to hate the American race broadcasts, especially the pre-race. As fantastic as Sky's team usually is, they seem to dumb down their regular Sunday show as if Americans are Formula 1 dummies that need everything spoon-fed to them. And just like last fall's Austin race, why in the heck does anyone believe Danica Patrick holds any shred of credibility speaking on F1??? She doesn't. I can assure the Sky producers that knowledgable American race fans think Danica's a complete joke whose career lasted as long as it did because of her looks... er, I mean because of her marketability.
While the track layout wasn't terrible, the race was rather lousy. It needed a South Florida storm about 30 laps in to shake things up.
Mercedes is making strides. Those guys are gonna win some races this year. Lewis is far from done.
